Virgance is a San Francisco based startup whose core mission is to leverage technology and social networks in innovative ways for social good.

We are a very early stage startup founded by Steve Newcomb (cofounder, Powerset: http://www.powerset.com/) and Brent Schulkin (founder, CarrotMob: http://www.carrotmob.org/, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUz0kM1u_jk).

We are hiring PHP, HTML/CSS/JS and Flash engineers.

Requirements:

• Excellent knowledge and experience with both object-oriented and service-oriented programming paradigms
• Experience building scalable web applications
• Experience working with a version control system
• Extremely proficient with PHP
• Excellent knowledge of database theory; familiarity with MySQL
• Excellent knowledge of front-end web development, with experience hand-coding W3C compliant XHTML and CSS
• High level of proficiency with JavaScript
• Experience with third party JS libraries such as MooTools, YUI, Prototype, Scriptaculous, JQuery, etc. Comfortable working in a linux environment
• Self-motivated engineer who can take the initiative and work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Pluses:

• Experience building applications on Facebook/OpenSocial platforms
• Excellent proficiency with object-oriented javascript
• Experience with Smarty
• Experience with Flash/Flex
• Experience with Actionscript
