Facebook sees drop in social sharing in Q3, remains top dog

While Facebook is still the king when it comes to social sharing worldwide, research from Gigya, a social connection firm, shows that Twitter and Pinterest are gaining steam.

Facebook saw its percentage of social shares drop below 50 percent to 41 percent, but maintained its lead as the top social network for sharing on media and publishing web properties in Q3.

In Q3 of 2013, Facebook also:

  • saw a 5 percent increase from Q2 in social sharing from consumer brands, and maintained its position as the lead sharing site;
  • still dominates in sharing in travel and hospitality;
  • saw 65 percent of shares on education and non-profit sites; and
  • still dominates in social shares around the world (North America, 36 percent; south America, 67 percent; Europe, 47 percent; Asia/Pacific, 60 percent).
