Facebook hires Michelle Morris from Google to rev up automotive sales

2012AMR03-29-XL

Facebook is making its pitch to auto manufacturers, showing that the social network can be an effective tool for generating sales. The company announced Monday the hiring of Michelle Morris, most recently the Managing Director of Automotive at Google. Morris is now Facebook’s Vertical Lead for Auto in the U.S., reporting to Dan Creekmore, U.S. Group Lead, Auto.

She’ll work out of Facebook’s Detroit office, coordinating with auto manufacturers and helping them use Facebook to build their brands as well as generate sales.

Prior to working for Google, Morris ran the Chrysler brand account at BBDO and also held leadership positions in the agency’s corporate marketing, retail sales training and human resource departments. She was honored as one of Crain’s Detroit 40 under 40 professionals.

Morris showed how excited she is to join Facebook in a press release:

I am honored to join Facebook’s talented team and cannot wait to partner with our agencies and clients to drive their business objectives forward. With Facebook’s offerings, automotive marketers can build and strengthen brand opinion, consideration and loyalty while maximizing efficiencies at every level of the purchase funnel. There has never been a more exciting time to work in the auto industry and Facebook’s unique capabilities will deliver results across the entire vehicle shopping and ownership experience.

Statement from Creekmore:

Michelle is a phenomenal addition to the team. She has an unparalleled depth of experience on both the marketer and publisher side, and brings that rare combination of art and data-driven science to the position, which will be invaluable as we work to help our customers grow their brands and business.

Statement from David Lawenda, VP, Global Marketing Solutions, US:

We’re thrilled that Michelle has joined Facebook. We want to help auto marketers use the power and reach of Facebook to build their brands and drive sales.  Michelle’s experience and relationships will be a remarkable addition to help serve our customers.
