UPDATED: Facebook ends test that prompted fans to get notifications after liking a page

Facebook page admins hate how only a fraction of their fanbase will see their posts. In October, Facebook allowed users the ability to get a notification whenever a page makes a post, offering people to stay connected to the pages they care about most.

Now some users are seeing a prompt to receive notifications from a page after they like it. Right after clicking the like button, a box popped up asking if the user wanted to get notifications from the page.

A Facebook spokesperson told Inside Facebook that this was just a test, and is now over. The spokesperson wrote, “it was a test to help people stay up to date with Pages they’re interested in. We’re no longer testing it.”

It’s unlikely that most users know about the ability to get notifications from pages, so this seems like a way for Facebook to make better connections between users and pages. With the “get notifications” feature, a user will get a notification each time that page makes a post. To activate this feature for pages that have already been liked, simply click or mouse over the like button to toggle notifications on or off. The default setting is for notifications to be off.
