Facebook’s Security Page Launches Security Quiz Tab Application
Today, the official Facebook Security Page launched an application tab called Security Quiz in hopes of helping users learn to avoid common web security pitfalls. Including questions such as “What’s the best way to ensure a strong password?”, the quiz covers issues like suspicious links, providing personal information, and scam reporting. The campaign benefits Facebook because an educated user base makes it harder for scams to spread, and reduces the site’s customer support costs.
The Facebook Security Page announced, “October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month in the U.S. Facebook worked with National Cyber Security Alliance, Anti-Phishing Working Group, and the Stop. Think. Connect. campaign on a new security quiz powered by Involver.”
One of the Page management companies on Facebook’s Preferred Developer Consultant list, Involver has previously powered the Other Pages tab on the Using Facebook Mobile Page. Offering Involver the opportunity to develop the Security Quiz tab further demonstrates Facebook’s high opinion of the company.
The seven multiple-choice question quiz is set as the default landing tab for Facebook security. Along with passwords, it addresses keeping your browser updated, and maintaining control of your online accounts. After answering each question, the user hits submit to see the correct answer and an explanation before moving on to the next question. Upon completing the quiz, users are prompted to “Be sure to show off your new badge on your profile”. However, the only option is a standard “Share” button which pulls up a feed publisher window which generates a the story below.
For the web savvy, the quiz will be quite easy, especially since many of the multiple choice answers are throw-aways. The goal was likely to get as many users as possible to complete the quiz and share, not to challenge some and baffle others. Instead, the quiz can serve as a reminder for more experienced users of which security issues still plague the internet.

This coming from a bunch of uneducated GITS who can’t even deal with redundant website URLS that have been flagged as spam, from spambot accounts who do nothing but spam pages as soon as the account is created.(7newsonline.com) (dailymedia7-site.com) (best7newsdaily.com) – seeing the pattern here? These morons at FB sure don’t. Do these Fing MORONS even bother to look at their own site and take this crap down? NO. These people are incompetent. I don’t even bother going to pages anymore, it’s all Fing spam.

Yesterday when I logged in (without clicking ANYTHING) I was redirected, not to my profile, but a survey, announced by a woman’s voice reading the letters on the left side of the screen. That screen, which was in Facebook’s writing (still on the same window I’d originally opened myself for logging in) had me click the answer to four random multiple choice questions in relation to facebook. It then offered me a prize, which I accepted, but the only information I gave them was my name and address. Is this a scam?

@El: We haven’t heard of this quiz and it doesn’t sound official. It was likely a scam, so you should change your Facebook password immediately.
