Couple’s Facebook Relationship Status Gets Updated to “Married” in Real-Time
In the latest social media wedding stunt to hit the internet, a man recently updated his Facebook relationship status at the alter — right after he got married, and right before he kissed the bride. The video has since flown around YouTube and across media outlets.
It’s a funny anecdote illustrating how Facebook’s 350 million users behave on the service in real life. Also, from what we can tell, it appears he used the Facebook Blackberry mobile application.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” said the presiding minister in the video. “What God has joined together, let no one separate…. Oh…. Dana is updating his relationship status on Facebook.”
The man, Maryland-based software engineer Dana Hanna, then handed his new wife, Tracy Page (now Tracy Hanna), her own phone so she could also join him sharing the news on Facebook and Twitter. And she did.
As he is quote as having explained later: “I have a lot of family scattered around the country and we all use Facebook a lot to keep in touch. So when Tracy and I were engaged, most of my family found out via Facebook because we updated our statuses.”

Isn’t this just lovely? I wonder if they told the priest before they pulled the stunt. If not, he handled it quite nicely. If the guy had connected his Twitter status with his Facebook their marriage is now official on Twitter as well.
I wish them all the best in the future!
