Facebook Lets You Filter Friends By City
Facebook has quietly introduced a way for you to find friends in particular cities. It’s a new version of a feature it had removed when it deprecated the “networks” part of user profiles a few months ago.

Within the Friends page on the site, you can now filter friends by the city the live in. Slightly older versions of this page — which itself is a new version of an older friends page — only offered ways to browse based on college, high school and workplaces. The new feature could be especially valuable for people trying to find long-lost friends who might be located nearby.
Back when Facebook had regional networks, it didn’t offer this sort of filter, but offered a more general tool where users could see who else was in the regional network. This new feature is actually more precise, by showing you not just regions — which had grown to include entire countries — but just the city you list on your profile.

>> Back when Facebook had networks …
What do you mean “had networks”? It still does. Go to settings, second tab.
Check your facts.

Thanks Andy, that meant “regional networks” not networks altogether. That sentence has been clarified.

I also noticed that when inviting people to an Event, Group, or suggesting a Fan Page, you can filter friends by location (city?) as well. Let’s call this the “invitation filter”.
The “invitation filter” seems to work differently from the Browse Friends filter. For example, when I used the invitation filter for Tuczon AZ, it found a friend who is NOT findable from the Browse Friends filter for Tuczon AZ.
To understand why, I went to her profile. She doesn’t list Current City, but under Employer, the company is located in Tuczon AZ. Seems like Facebook was smart(?) enough to capture that data for the invitation filter.

Seems like this feature may have disappeared again in the recent redesign. At least, I’ve spend the last 15 minutes trying to find it to no avail…
