Worldwide Facebook Mobile Usage Up 300% in Last 12 Months
Today at the Nokia World conference in Stuttgart, Facebook’s Director of Mobile, Henri Moissinac, announced that Facebook’s worldwide mobile audience just crossed 65 million active users. To put that in perspective, that’s nearly 25% of all of Facebook’s total worldwide reach – and four times as many people using Facebook Mobile than this time last year.

While Facebook won’t break down mobile usage by country currently, we believe that Facebook’s mobile growth is largely tracking with Facebook’s overall international growth. In the last 12 months, over 70% of Facebook’s new users have come from outside the United States, with much of that growth coming in Europe and South America.
With this morning’s announcement of Facebook Connect for Mobile Web, we expect to see Facebook’s reach and engagement continue to increase as more Connect-enabled applications spread around the world. Earlier this year, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg said that Facebook’s mobile users were on average “50% more active” than the general Facebook population.
Today, Facebook operates multiple mobile services worldwide:
- Facebook for iPhone, which currently has over 13 million monthly active users (and is currently adding half a million active users per week)
- Facebook for Blackberry, which currently has nearly 9 million monthly active users
- m.facebook.com, the standard mobile interface
- x.facebook.com, an advanced mobile interface
- Facebook SMS, through which users can update their status and receive notifications. This service is now available on 52 operators in 25 countries.
In addition, Facebook applications are available for phones from INQ, HTC, LG Electronics, Motorola, Palm, RIM, Samsung and Sony Ericsson, the T-Mobile Sidekick, and phones powered by Microsoft’s Windows Mobile.

Can some help me with the math. If there are 13M iPhone users and 9M Blackberry users, then 43M of the 65M regular users come from the other platforms? I find that VERY HARD to believe.
Most cross platform developers that I speak with have well over 60% of their monthly users coming from one or two platforms.
Besides, if the m.facebook platform was so strong, they would have mentioned it first, before iPhone.
Something doesn’t sit right with me here.
