Facebook Improves Tools For Inviting Friends To Recurring Events

Facebook is becoming an increasingly common way to organize events, and now Facebook has made it a little easier to invite groups of friends to many events. A new feature in the “Filter Friends” tab when creating a new event lets users select invitee lists who they previously invited to recent events.

Scheduling large events through Facebook can be a hassle for specialized groups, and previously, the only way to invite a group was to create a dedicated friend list. With this new feature, it’s easy to schedule recurring events with the same group of Facebook friends without having to choose the entire invite list one person at a time.

The tool allows you to pull in a list of people from any current or recent event you’ve created. This can be especially useful for anything from meetings to team sports, where the group you’d like to invite doesn’t necessarily fall under an existing network.

Adding this tool to event scheduling helps fill out Facebook’s feature set to help it better compete with specialized event sites like Meetup. Facebook still has a long way too go before it matches the full services offers by those sites, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Do you know what would be cool?

Add an checkbox to a event so it can recur on:
    Daily (everyday)
Weekly on say Tues and Thursdays, weekdays or just say once a week
Monthly on day 25 of each month or say days 13 and 26
    Yearly e.g. on December 25th

but i doubt Facebook do that anytime soon :(

I may be missing something but it really feels like we have a long way to go before managing events on facebook for artists is anything exciting.

Selecting individual fans was definitely a major pain so this helps but we really need the ability to just select all fans with perhaps some simple filtering options (i.e. location).

Recurring events are a must and the absence of this feature makes the working band’s life for maintaining a facebook schedule prohibitively painful. Having to go thru a 4+ page wizard to add one event (and having to repeatedly upload the same images each time) when you have 4 or 5 events a week…well we’re always out of date on facebook but up to date everywhere else. Single screen event creation with the ability to fully edit or copy past events (can’t change dates currently to reuse exact data) would be great.

Give us the ability to host images like photos on profiles so we can just select our stock images or upload new ones as needed. In fact, it seems like there are many useful ‘profile’ features that should be in Pages as the communication process and opportunities are the same, at least for us. Our fans want to speak to/communicate with us just like they speak to their friends and vice versa. Why the effort to limit Pages capabilities?

We’ll need the ability to import events from .csv files as we’re all managing multiple sites now.

Lastly, the posting and visibility of events and invitations on fan pages doesn’t seem to be flexible enough to fully leverage facebook’s current communication features.

We still get facebook fans asking us where/when were playing even when the event is on our calendar and we notify everyone. Maybe a user errors somewhere but that in itself says a lot about improvement opportunities.

If you have other suggestions or tool recommendations for event mgmt pls send our way!
