Indeed: Facebook Launches Twitter App for Facebook Page Owners

A few weeks ago, we noticed a test tweet from Facebook that looked like the company might be working on a new way to syndicate status updates to Twitter. Today, Facebook just launched exactly that.
Now, with a new Twitter application created by Facebook, Facebook Page owners can automatically syndicate their posts to Twitter just by installing the app on their Facebook Page. You can decide whether you want to share each update with your Twitter followers, and you can control which types of updates to share (status updates, links, photos, notes, events or everything). If you have multiple Pages, you can also link each of those Pages to different Twitter accounts. Updates are posted to Twitter with a short URL from bit.ly.

“Public figures, musicians, businesses and organizations of all types who’ve created Facebook Pages often want to share a status update, a photo or an event with as many of their supporters as possible,” Facebook’s Michael Gummelt says. “Celebrities may want to share personal news or charities may want to put out calls for help to both their Facebook fans and their Twitter followers, all at the same time.”
It’s the first time Facebook has created any official Twitter integration.
“Twitter was a natural next step to link with Facebook Pages because it is a powerful tool for broadcasting short messages widely,” he added.

As we speculated earlier, this is an interesting move by Facebook that could potentially make Facebook one of the largest sources of updates on Twitter – an interesting inversion of the way Twitter is used as a Facebook application by many users, Page owners, and content publishers today to syndicate content into Facebook. Were Facebook to expand the application to all users – not just Pages – Facebook could become the largest Twitter app if just a few million users started using it.
The move correlates with Facebook’s strategy in recent months to make status updates and streams more open and public. Will Facebook make it easy for users to automatically syndicate their public posts to any number of other services? It could very well make a lot of sense, and Twitter is one of the best places to start.
Dane Cook, LIVESTRONG, The World Wildlife Fund, and the NBA, WNBA and D-League. are already up and running with the new app.

Good first step for Facebook to be open. Makes life easy for Brand Fan Managers.
I’d like to see a way to syndicate tweets into a fan page. This way we can connect conversations happening on twitter to those on the fan page to manage fragmented conversations across Facebook and Twitter.

Sudha, have you checked out Selective Twitter Status?

Hey, my previous comment shows facebook’s bad seo. When non-logged in user(including search bot) comes it should either redirect to default page or link to eng language, my above link is spanish facebook!

I would like to know how this application pulls the links that are shared on Facebook Pages. I posted a link to VentureBeat ‘Twitter had been in talks to buy FriendFeed too, co-founder Stone says’ and on Twitter it displayed as ‘Twitter co-founder Stone on tweet location: Everyone should do this!’
They both start with the word Twitter but they are completely different stories?!?!

I’ve installed it on 2 pages and so far no updates. Last time Facebook rolled out a major change, the new search, it took 24 hours before it was available on my account.

It is a too simple implementation – and the wrong way around. Or lets say, not far enough. Owners of pages are more likely to want to integrate it with other systems and not make the page the primary location. It is rather Blog/Site -> Facebook and either Blog->Twitter or Facebook Page in a defined way to Twitter.
Nice app, but all in all missing the boat.

A good move but Facebook is not the first to integrate with Twitter. Other bookmarking sites have got started much earlier.

Its really great news for facebook pages user to interact with twitter friends. This will surely help them to promote their content online with twitter friends. Nice effort by Facebook.

Thanks for this. It seems that you can post info into Facebook and then publish as well at the Twitter.
Is there any app for the other away around like the one that I use for personal account at the moement (I am twitting and then automatically publish into facebook).
Thanks

Selective Twitter is better. Once people start updating their FB status with every single Tweet, people like me will block them in their feed — never to be heard from again.
With selective Twitter, you add #fb ONLY when you want that to become your FB status. It deletes the “#fb” and instantly updates your status. Works like a charm, and it’s no surprise that the new FB app has some kinks to work out.

This is a very compelling move on the part of Facebook – but major brands should be careful on how they use the feature. Check out my recent blog post on the topic: http://srm.vitrue.com/f4S

I’d use this, except I need to be able to analyze clicks. If not this won’t be of much use to me.
