If you’re searching for your Facebook friends on Twitter, check out fb140 from Twitter app developer Twables to make the job a little easier.
The service uses Facebook Connect to find and add your existing Facebook friends to your Twitter following list, so you won’t have to hunt through each person’s information to find their Twitter handle. This tool is especially beneficial for those with lots of Facebook friends.

How does fb140 know how to find Facebook friends on Twitter? It looks at the websites field of your Facebook friends’ profiles to find friends that have listed their Twitter URL. It’s a really simple service for now, but could be a helpful way sync contact lists between Facebook and Twitter for those who want to do so.

I doubt many people list their Twitter page in their websites list on Facebook. It sounds like something only the desperately needy or self-important “personal brand owners” would do.
Here, let me test it…Yep, it didn’t find anybody, even though I know that everybody I follow on Twitter has a Facebook account. I guess my friends are too normal for this app to help.
This is one of those internet application designed to impress tech bloggers, and nobody else. Its methods won’t work for everyday users.

The first comment above from Michael is spot on: this makes for a cool demo but doesn’t work yet in real life.
I tried it and out of my 600 Facebook friends, it got one Twitter account (a coworker whom I’m already following).
Also, the language telling me I “needed” to publish a story to my feed about Twitter directory was misleading and overly aggressive. Twable should tone down that language and make it clear that it’s an optional step.
Cool concept in theory, doesn’t work at all in practice.

The issue, I think, is that fb140 seems to be building its own directory – so, even if your Facebook friends are on Twitter, the only way it knows that is if they’ve also signed in to both FB and Twitter on their site. I’m sure this is why they are so aggressive with the language on the news feed story… but, I question whether they’ll ever be able to get critical mass on this.
