Fans Flock to Michael Jackson’s Facebook Page, Now the Fastest Growing Page on Facebook

Last week, the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson, died unexpectedly at age 50. Now, the Michael Jackson Facebook Page is the #1 fastest growing Page on Facebook, according to PageData. Over 1.7 million fans have joined the Page in the last week, bringing the total number of fans to nearly 2.5 million.
Fans from around the world are leaving Wall posts in honor of the legendary music icon and uploading new photos to the page. The page’s new profile picture reads: His music will live forever.
Today alone, the page added over 550,000 fans. Fans have been joining at a rate of several hundred thousand per day since Friday.
Since Michael Jackson’s passing on Thursday, other Facebook Pages have been created to commemorate his life and music, including R.I.P Michael Jackson (We Miss You) (2.1 million fans) and Michael Jackson RIP (577,172 fans), with the former aiming to make itself the biggest page in history – an interesting phenomenon to watch.
While Facebook Pages are effective and attractive tools for big brand and celebrities to reach their audiences, what happens when celebrities pass away, and there are no longer events and promotions to tell fans about? How long into the future will the administrators and fans of these popular public profiles still be generating content?
However, right now, it’s obvious that as much as Facebook Pages have been marketed and positioned as tools for official advertisers, in these last several days at least, they are being used to rally a different kind of support: one that is less commercial and more emotionally expressive.

These categories are what we would usually consider Groups. They are tributes, or memorials, or things created to honor something; not necessarily to generate content or to have Stream capability, etc. The additional functionality afforded to Pages are not needed here, yet people have seen the power of pages and they are becoming the defacto standard for sub-communities of Facebook.
Pages have, for the most part, supplanted groups. Because Page Owners see more potential and functionality in them.

That’s the thing about Facebook “fan” pages – is they can be created by anyone. Personally, I think that should make many business owner’s blood run cold. Case in point, the Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuit Fan Page… approved by but not created by Red Lobster.
People join fan pages because they seek community – unfortunately, many businesses forget the
WIFFM factor.

l’am sorry about micheal Jackson death.He was only 50yrs old that’s young for the King of pop. l used to watch “Do you remembered the time” Music video ever since I was a little Kid back then. “Now, I can get theAlbum Thriller the 25th Anniversity best selling album of all time”. The soundtrack was good. Oh by the way, The actor who play him did very well Playing as Micheal Jackson. I wish he can come back so can preform songs for his fansbut before that he has to write songs. I miss you micheal jackson.

It was so scary seeling him go at age 50. I heard about the news on tv but I just didn’t know where he was buried at. I feel sorry for Janet Jackson, his brothers, his parents, fans, & his kids. I wonder what would the jackson do without him? Well, R.l.P. Micheal Jackson the king of pop.

Michael’s mom and dad should be very proud of michael.not only because of the music,fame he made for himself.But the most important thing of all.And alot of people have forgotten it.and That he had alot of. kindness,helping others in need.but most of all.A gentalmen.plus he respect himself.But we pushed him to doing alot he didn’t realy wanted to do.I have alot! of respect for him.I wish there was more people in the world like michael.you’r one of a kind michael.love pammie.t
