Facebook Connect Coming to the Nintendo DSi This Summer

Yesterday morning at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, Xbox announced a Facebook Connect integration coming this fall that would mark the first Connect integration on a gaming console ever. But this morning, Nintendo made a similar announcement with a launch date that would beat Xbox to be the first Facebook implementation to go live on a game console.

EVP of Sales and Marketing Cammie Dunway said that beginning this summer, Nintendo DSi owners can upload and share their photos on Facebook via Facebook Connect. Dunway further commented, “Nintendo continues to challenge how both new and longtime players perceive – and play – video games … we are continuing to add entirely new dimensions to the video game experience.”

Using the DSi system’s built-in camera and interactive lenses, players who are also Facebook users can directly upload pictures to Facebook while playing games. This Facebook Connect integration will be available in the summer via a Nintendo DSi system update.

With Nintendo’s announcement today and Xbox’s yesterday, gaming consoles are quickly acting upon the possibility that Facebook’s social graph will enhance the gameplay experience. And it’s interesting that Facebook Connect is going cross platform with multiple gaming consoles. A video of Nintendo’s presentation will be available here later today. Stay tuned!

Does anyone know the exact launch date for the update. I’m going on vacation in a week and a half and it will be nice to have the update so if I get wi-fi along the way I will be able to post pics of my vacation with me, my dad, my step-brother, and half-brother. Email me the launch date if possible. Its hard to write these messages from the dsi. :)

I try to update everyday but the same thing happens over and over again. It says there’s an update avilable and do you wan’t to download it, I click yes like everyone else and it starts to update then it says this version of the system software is up to date. then it shuts down like normal. it happens to everybody else. its annoying. >_< oh and ive heard the dsi is getting a webcam and its own IM channel ( from what ive heard )

  17. Matthew McMaster says:

I updated the dsi to the new 1.4. The facebook upload is on the dsi camera app. Just go to the camera click on which source ( system or sd card ) then go to album and find the picture you want to upload and above it the will be the facebook sign. note: wireless must be on and you need an internet connection.

  18. Vickie says:

    Vickie
