How To Sync Your Twitter and Facebook Status Updates

Well, managing friends and social networks isn’t exactly convenient these days because there are so many online services and communities to help you stay in touch with and keep track of other people — Facebook, Twitter, Ning, Plaxo, FriendFeed, Loopt, Brightkite, GChat…the list just goes on and on. One thing you can do to make it all a little easier is to sync your Facebook and Twitter accounts so that the status messages you enter on one site show up at the other too. Here’s how to do it:
Syncing Facebook and Twitter from Facebook:
1) Search for “Twitter” in Facebook and add the first “Twitter” application that shows up in the search results. (It’s made by Twitter itself.)

2) Allow Twitter to access your profile.

3) Log into your Twitter account (via the Twitter application inside Facebook).

Now your Facebook messages will also show up in Twitter! But there’s one more step to send information from Twitter back to Facebook…
4) After you test out the Facebook to Twitter functionality by typing a message and clicking on “Update,” click on “Allow Twitter to Update Your Facebook Status”

5) Allow status updates from Twitter back to Facebook.

6) Check to see if it works, by logging into twitter.com from a different browser window and entering a status…

Well, as you can see below, it worked! If you’re an avid user of Twitter and Facebook and you’re finding it difficult to manage status updates, you might want to think about merging the two utilities…

Is this a new feature in the twitter app? It used to not update twitter from facebook only facebook from twitter. If we already had the app installed do we have to reinstall it or something?
January 22nd, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Added the app 3 hrs ago, posted status update on FB but so far no post on Twitter. I don’t want Twitter to FB, only the other way around.
January 22nd, 2009 at 1:45 pm
@Matt Baker You have to allow Twitter to access Facebook twice: once to access your profile (which you’ve already done) and again to change the Facebook status message.

Good to know. Thanks for the tips!
January 22nd, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Right, so while Twitter can update Facebook, it doesn’t actually work the other way ’round. Facebook will not update Twitter.
January 22nd, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Darn! Can’t edit my post. I was going to add that the Minggl toolbar allows you to set one status and push it out to all the social networks you belong to that it works with (including Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace) at once.
January 22nd, 2009 at 3:28 pm
I have resisted this so far as I doubt my Facebook friends will know what I am on about ha!
January 22nd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
If you go to the twitter app in facebook and post there it will end up on facebook and twitter. twitter will also post to facebook. posting from facebook does not seem to work.

Heys, not sure if this help’s but no harm posting. Had problems with selective posting and account mixups. Found my solution with this guy’s tutorial:
http://cogito.faii.net/linking-facebook-to-twitter-tutorial/
He details using this other app that helps post selectively only.
However he says it doesn’t work if your twitter feed is on private/safe mode.
Cheers and hope it helps!

So far I’m not very impressed with this. For one thing after following the instructions things did not go as described in the steps outlined above.
First off, I never got a screen asking me to allow the application access to my FB information. All I get is a blank screen.
Is this yet another one of those applications that is written only to support Micro$oft IE? If so, it impresses me even less.

Right now (since March) Facebook is not allowing updates to Twitter via Facebook site, although vice versa IS currently allowed.
Someone please get me back when Facebook finally comes to their senses!

Found the Twitter application on Facebook!!! Post within the Twitter app in Facebook and it shows on your Twitter account. Post on Twitter and it shows on your Facebook account.
[BUT!!!] from Facebook to Twitter, you can only post from within the Twitter app. If you post on Facebook from your Wall, it will NOT SYNC to Twitter.
Anyway, my dilemma is HALF-RESOLVED.
Anyone found a COMPLETE SOLUTION, kindly tell.

Safari can’t open the page.
Too many redirects occurred trying to open “http://apps.facebook.com/session”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page.
In other words, it didn’t work.

The twitter app on Facebook works just fine.
The only thing I noticed is that when I update my Facebook through the [Facebook home/profile/wall pages] it doesn’t update my twitter.
-BUT-
If I want my facebook updates to show on Twitter, I _HAVE_ to use the app page (http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/).
If you pay attention to that then it’s OK.
Or you could just use some other service like http://ping.fm/, but that does mean you have to login to yet another site

Hi – since Facebook added the language toggle for posts, my sync seems to have taken by the way-side. Anyone have insight as to whether I can have one synch/feed for each language that I post in?
December 23rd, 2009 at 6:39 am
I have been trying to use this advice to update my Twitter from FB. In order to use FB updates to your Twitter, you must update your status using the Twitter app for FB. It will not update your Twitter using the “What’s on your mind” box on FB. You must update only on the app. Then both work fine, from FB to Twitter and Twitter to FB, but it is annoying.

amazing aplication…twitter is good..but I cant find something usefull on there…
January 4th, 2010 at 5:57 am
My plan in linking one of my Facebook pages to Twitter was simply to share Facebook updates to my Twitter followers — not to have them post on my primary Facebook profile for all my Facebook friends to see. But Twitter is forwarding all those updates BACK to my primary Facebook profile, and I can’t figure out if there’s a way to make it only one-way (Facebook to Twitter). Most of my regular Facebook friends are not interested in the business page I’m trying sync with Twitter.
January 5th, 2010 at 7:42 am
I’ve tried these instructions, but when I type a message into my Facebook account – It is NOT automatically showing up on my Twitter account. It’s only showing that if I type something into Twitter it will show up on Facebook now.. I don’t need that, I want it the other way around. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks so much…

Great idea & works great
January 13th, 2010 at 9:07 am
Is there any way that you can sync your twitter to update your business profile instead of your user profile?
January 13th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
To disconnect twitter from FB go to your Twitter profile and select the Connections tab. Find the app & click “remove access.
January 15th, 2010 at 12:18 am
Well, followed all instructions, done this off & on all day. installed Twitter on FB, logged into both, posted on both, nothing shows up on either. The Twitter shortcut on FB when I click on it, brings up a blank page. Other factors are very irritating, frustrating, may just give up on whole thing! the sync thing I mean….any ideas out there?????
January 18th, 2010 at 4:19 pm
I have tried this a thousand times. I have added it, removed it, logged out and in over and over, but I can’t get the tweets to show up on my facebook account. When I click the edit link for twitter through facebook, I enter my username and password, but the next page is just completely white. There is nothing to click. It never asked me the “allow” question, but I checked the “Publish recent activity (one line stories) to my wall” box in the Application Settings. Help!!

Stephanie Ivy,
I have the exact same problem. I’m not sure what’s going on. If I find a solution, I will post it here. The same goes for you please.
January 21st, 2010 at 9:33 am
It looks like the current way to do it is to add the “Tweet (formerly Twitter Updater)” application to your Facebook page. You will then have to click the “tweet” option when updating your Facebook status and it will update your Twitter status. Personally, I prefer this solution as I use Facebook much more than Twitter. They say they are working on getting the status to update automatically without having to click the tweet button (see the tab called “sad news”).
