Will You Help Us Please?
We have lived in the Scarborough, Maine for 48 months now.
Without insurance, my prescription (pharmacy) bill is over $3,000 per month. Thank God my husband obtained job with insurance after being laid off from his first Maine job Nov 29, 2004 to May 30, 2005 and then got employed again on August 28, 2005. Cobra has been $940-$1,060 for 15 months in 2004-2005. Husband’s new wages are so low we can’t pay bills and eat. I have some very extreme physical conditions including 4 previous back surgeries and need 3 more surgeries which can NEVER be done due to a RARE back disease called Arachnoiditis. This is a condition where my nerves have clumped in the center of my back and spider web out to my shoulders, neck, waist and buttocks. There is to NEVER be another needle or surgery done through my back again. Totally I have 24+ recognizable different ‘conditions’, ‘diseases’ and/or ‘syndromes’.
A house designed for a standing handicap? Husband only one earning, WE CAN’T SURVIVE.!
I have applied to social security for my disability MANY different times, and always denied. I always did it myself not wanting to pay lawyers for my pain which certainly doesn’t seem right to me. This really kind of bothers me when I know people who can’t read, they get their social security disability with virtually no hassle what so ever. I have documented, proven, tested, and known afflictions but I can’t receive my social security disability without the use of a lawyer? Where did justice go? I am currently working on getting my social security, personally first AGAIN. I went through MDHHS, but husband made $0.50 too much per hour. My appeal of denial was answered in mid July, that we made too much money but if I would show proof of some amount around $5,700 out of pocket expenses since some time in Feb through mid July they would cover us with Maine Care through the end of July!!! All that work for 2 weeks of coverage was a REAL slap in the face! I NEED HELP! I need to know How to FIRE the lawyer I hired to help me with my disability, because it seems to me he is going to get 1/3 of a possible 5 year settlement, and he hasn’t even taken the time to speak to me.
So MDHHS Says I am disabled, and in the rules in the tax papers say I am a disabled person also. They use to give us an extra deduction, because I haven’t had any income all year. I HAVE HAD NO INCOME SINCE THE FALL FLAT ON MY FACE ON MARCH 23, 2003, the placement of a tortoise shell brace in April 2003 and by social security not allowing earlier I get Less and less money. The longer this goes on, less and less help and more and more pain!! I need a help.
Please Respond, Dunstan Corners Apartments constituent

This is a really great story. I think Jeremy's right, it's about using Facebook in conjunction with everything else to be another avenue to reinforce the message. For young people especially, using Facebook makes you more real, and keeping all the feedback mechanisms (comments, message boards) in place is the right move to keep transparency.

Thanks for sharing your journey, it was really inspiring. Keep up the good work and stay true to your cause (i.e. being for your townspeople and not let the fame get to you)

While this article claims to be about using facebook, I think the more important message is that you didn't just do one thing. You did everything: door-to-door, phone calls, direct mail, facebook, etc.

When you got the absentee voter list you didn't just send out a generic direct mail piece. You took the extra step of trying to find each person on facebook and when possible send them a personalized message.

A famous marketer was once asked what technique to use to get 100 new clients. And, he said, "I don't know a way to get 100 new clients, but I do know 100 ways to get 1 new client, and I do them all."

Congrats!
