Facebook Deprecates Old Feed Publishing APIs

Although the new Facebook is “backward compatible” with the old Facebook in many ways for Platform application developers, publishing to Feeds is not one of them.

Facebook application developers should be aware that the feed publishing APIs which have been in use from the launch of the Platform until the profile redesign have now been officially deprecated.  The following APIs no longer work:

  • feed.publishActionOfUser
  • feed.publishStoryToUser
  • users.isAppAdded

If you haven’t changed the way your app publishes feed items, you will no longer see your app’s feed stories on the new profile. All feeds must now be published through registered template bundles, as described in the Facebook Developers Wiki.

Great news, the old feeds have been a little bit of a waste. I’m sure the new tools will be a lot more flexible.
