Last week, Inside Facebook reported that Facebook had opened up discussion in Groups and Pages for search engines. Soon, Facebook may make Events public and searchable as well.

The Facebook Directory, Facebook’s search-engine-friendly list of indexable content, is expanding with Facebook’s redesign: while the old directory only includes People, Pages, and Applications, the new directory also includes Events and Groups, spots reader Dan Birdwhistell of BigSight.

While many Groups are already currently indexable, this could mark the first time many Events would be publicly available for search, greatly increasing the number of Facebook events in search indexes.

How will users respond to their Facebook events showing up in Google search results? Facebook will need to do a good job communicating the default privacy settings for Events. It’s not clear that the creators of or participants in events like Gettin’ too drunk on Two Lick, one of the events in the Facebook Event Directory, know that their event could now potentially be accessible to searchers worldwide.

As an SEO, this is great! I can imagine it will rank high so if properly optimized, this could be truly a good thing!

    looks positive

and i got a exclusive - my back to old facebook header has gone missing in the last hour (hoping it not a bug)

new Facebook has more positives then negatives in my opinion. Facebook can not please every single person 100%. the biggest 2 positives are speed and more navigatable (in sense of avoiding the applications as now with ’sections’ aka tab interface) and the new approach of if you do not want to see the applications - do not click ‘boxes’.

Maybe they should have a new Facebook ‘light’ edition for these people who overly concerned (2 tab structure - mainly is the apps (boxes) and the ‘profile’ - a combined ‘light’ tab that has info, wall, video, notes and photos tabs) after addressing both new and old style problems typically spam, grouping of news stories, more options/ customizable (within limits) and a compatible backbone for both that is (new)Facebook ‘light’ (muting some of the fb sucks crowd) and new Facebook ‘full’ as Facebook intends (i happy with most of the time as most of my annoyance are with developers and that lack of consideration - why hundreds gift, hugs, poke, pillow fight and )

they do need more flexibility for users as i sure there alot that can be optional (e.g. a opt out of chat (fb do need to improve particularly with Internet Explorer and more common with web browsers needs more on the reliability stakes), the addition of colour - 1.2 million do want at least a choice and i sure there is other parts that could be optional.

Sadly, they can not please 6 billion plus people with 6 billion options (with tweaks here and there) as it not practical.

considering you ( http://www.insidefacebook.com/2008/07/24/facebook-enters-search-agreement-with-microsoft/ ) spilled an exclusive that Live Search from Windows Live/ Microsoft is coming in the Autumn to Facebook Search there maybe have more prominence on Live Search considering it seems a deal has been done there.

the extention to groups and events - this is almost certain as the likes of Google, Live Search and friends wants to diversify and companies like Facebook and Myspace want to make things more social!
