Update: Facebook Pushes Back Full Redesign Launch Date Again
September 10th, 2008
| By Justin Smith | 36 Comments » |
While Facebook last week announced that all users would be moved to the new version of the site this week, the company now says it is actually more likely to be a “few more weeks” before all users are switched over. While the release date of the new profile to all users has never been made official, it has slipped from estimated launch dates a few times now.
While Facebook continues to receive complaints from users on the site redesign (the “Petition Against the New Facebook” group has grown from 400,000 users on Saturday to nearly 1 million users tonight), many users have already switched over fully to the new version.
In the meantime, Facebook Platform application developers will have to support users of both the old and new versions of the site for several more weeks.

Can I get mine made permanent already? The new Facebook is so much better than the old one, quite frankly, I hated spending ten minutes looking for someone’s wall, wading through tonnes of useless crap. So much quicker now! Thanks Facebook, keep up the good work!
*This message does NOT contain any sarcasm whatsoever, I genuinely do think people complaining are a bit slow in the head, if you know what I mean, and I think you do, unless you were complaining about the new Facebook, then you might be slow in the head and not know what I mean by slow in the head

WHO EVER SAID CHANGE WAS ALWAYS A GOOD THING?? MARCK ZUCKERBURG, YOU HAVE REALLY SCREWED IT UP THIS TIME.
September 12th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
This proves that they are improving it and not just pushing something through. It’s not ready so they are rolling out enhancements over time. They have already fixed many of the user’s complaints. I look forward to the official roll out.
LOL @ people who say they will leave if the change-over goes ahead. It WILL happen. It’s a FACT! Why are you still here? Here…I’ll help you pack your bags.

Whats with forcing everyone to use the new design? Over a million members in one group alone that hates the new design, so why cant they just keep the option to stay with the old one? I for one hate the design, and want to stay with the old one.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
I like the new redesign. But I understand why others don’t.

I love the new facebook. I want it to be kept. It’s really organized. Messy people are the ones who like the old one. Clean the f**k up seriously. Quit being so disrespectful. I like to get on my facebook, not wait for all those applications to load on one effing page.
September 12th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
The old one did have problems, it’s called adding cool applications, but then having to wait 10 mins because they are loading on to one page. I like how you can go from tabs. I love tabs, i think it’s good.
September 13th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Cylina, your computer is just a piece of crap.
September 13th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

September 13th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Tabs suck! end of discussion.
September 13th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
dumb asses!! its called ctrl+f type in “the wall” apparently im not slow in the head and plus i moved my wall rite up to the top so ppl didnt have to scroll down and if u have troubles loading all the apps, its called get a faster internet
September 14th, 2008 at 4:22 am
If it’s not broken, don’t fix it….but why is Facebook trying to ‘re-invent the wheel’?
Newcomers to Facebook in the future will not have a clue what all the fuss was all about. However, it was the fact that Facebook was such a user friendly site that made it so appealing. Now you spend too much time navigating too many pages of your or a person’s Profile to find anything.
Although Facebook is looking into the future, this is a bold move that will impact on it’s very existence. Unfortunately, I don’t see the old version ever returning. This site was fun, but now I am totally over it….

CAN I HAVE THE OLD LAY OUT PLSSSS!!
AT LEAST GIVE USER AN OPTION,OLD OR NEW LAYOUT..
I`M ENJOY BEING HERE..THE FIRST SOCIAL NETWORK I JOIN AND HOPEFULLY THE ONLY ONE..
PLS DON`T SWITCH MY MIND…
WE,USER NEED AND WANT AN OPTIONt!!!.THAT`S ALL!!
September 14th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
I hate the new facebook. No offense. But honestly.. it’s slower. I hate that I have to go to a different tab just to look at bumper stickers and other peoples’ info! How lamme! I liked it better when we had a choice. Soo why in the world am I being forced to use it if I don’t like it?! I hate it. Pleasee pleeasse just change it back OR at least give me the choice to people who don’t even like it!
September 15th, 2008 at 12:34 am
It finally happened tonight. I clicked on a group-link on a “I Hate the New Facebook” group wall and voila – I was snagged and switched to the new facebook! I still think it was a “plant” to force hold-backs to switch over.
My issue is different. Don’t know what it is about it but I find it physically very hard on the eyes and it made me feel queasy after just a few minutes. Could be a depth perception problem maybe? I was glad for the opt-out code! I wouldn’t be able to use the new facebook even if I wanted to.
September 16th, 2008 at 9:01 am
Well, I want to old Facebook back, who cares about the applications?? Even though I love some of the games but still. The new design is too wide as well. Everything on one page was so much easier to navigate!
September 16th, 2008 at 9:36 am
check it:
http://www.new.facebook.com/press/info.php?statistics=
there are over 100 Million users on Facebook. so a group with only 1% of the site’s traffic isn’t a big deal. wake up people, no one cares.
September 16th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Yea, I think we’re starting to realise that the old design isn’t coming back. It’s time to start looking for new social networks.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:33 am
I like the new facebook layout, but I can see why people would prefer the old layout better. Why not just keep the option for both there? What’s the big deal?
September 17th, 2008 at 11:59 am
I personally despize the new layout… i’ve given it a few weeks to see if I’d get use to it… HELL NO! I kept reverting back to the old one. It’s much simplier, easier, less complicated…and right there to see. The new layout is so not user friendly as they claim it to be. They really need to make it look like the old version at least or give everyone a choice to click on one or the other. Forcing everyone to use one layout without a choice is disgusting and selfish. Everyone is different, we don’t all like the same thing and so that is where the option of letting people have the ability to CHOSE be an option. Maybe it’s the age and maturity of the creator of facebook that is shining thru. Any smart and normal adult with maturity would know to make sure there are options for people and to keep everyone happy.
September 17th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
I was against the new facebook initially but now im fine with it, change is inevitable people so stop your bloody bitching!!!!! Dont like it? go set up your own networking site and see how easy it is lol
I have no problems with it now and can navigate around easily and to be honest the old facebook was BORING and PREDICTABLE… now its interactive and fun and just like YourFriendJustice Says: NOBODY CARES SO LET IT GO!! lol

GIVE ME OLD FACEBOOK BACK!
September 18th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I’ve gotten frustrated several times trying to find things on the new Facebook and have reverted to the old a few times. But I also know that most people (me included) hate to adjust to new things, but once they become familiar, the new way magically seems so much less stupid and it’s the old way that loses it charm.
Ultimately, though I’ll miss having some applications on my “main” page, it will be nice not to have to wade through all the Pirates, Vampires, Bumper Stickers, Flowers, etc. each time I want to write on somebody’s wall (now be honest – that annoyed most of you, too). Yes, I did move my own wall to the top of my page on old Facebook, but the vast majority of my several hundred friends were not so inclined/considerate/clued-in, and the plethora of applications was getting absurd!! In time, I think New Facebook will be a blessing. It’s just adjusting to it that’s a pain.
September 20th, 2008 at 3:55 am
The new design is messier than the old one! I don’t want my mini-feed and my wall mixed together; I dont want different sizes of fonts on my wall! I want to have control on what people see when they get to my profile (i.e. my horoscope or watever), they aren’t gonna go through tabs n shit! The new design is merely a way for FB to make more money because it’s certainly a maze where u have to click million times to get to what u want! Ofcourse, million clicks = million Ads = millions and millions of dollars. So if we boycott FB for a week, they would know that USERS come first.
September 20th, 2008 at 6:00 am
facebook is so bad now . its even worse than hi5 !!
BRING BACK THE OLD FACEBOOK!!!!!
September 21st, 2008 at 10:03 am
well honestly saying i did like the old facebook n do hate the new one, but the only thing i’d like to suggest to facebook developers is dat when they have introduced this new design they should also have included some colors or choice of themes coz it really looks boring at times or they should just let the users have a choice.
September 23rd, 2008 at 8:21 am
I agree with YourFriendJustice.. there are over 100 million people on Facebook and there is only a minor 1% who are complaining.
I have to say it took some getting used too but the new layout is actually more organized and is easier to load. Loading does require a good internet connection and a performing computer.. but when you have both and it still takes a minute to load a page.. there is something wrong.
So all of you who won’t stop complaining about this subject, take your profile and go on myspace who just copies what Facebook reinvented and spend countless hours doing your HTML. Stop saying you will do it and do it.
September 28th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Personally, I prefer the old facebook, and I prefer the old facebook to myspace, new facebook is just very messy, especially in terms of navigation, it’s all over the place. Keeping it simple works for me, new myspace, oops, I mean facebook doesn’t work as well for me.
And yes, the option of ‘doing one’s own html’ as Audrey puts it, would indeed be better.
September 30th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
I would much rather have the old facebook. And for those who “hate waiting for the applications to load,” maybe you should consider getting new friends. If anyone is juvenille enough to have applications like “Hot or Not” or “Which Disney princess are YOU!?” then maybe they don’t deserve your friendship. But seriously people, grow up. It’s not the first time in history where people have had to change even when they didn’t want to. I’m sure that I hate new facebook just as much as some of you, but just deal with it.
