Many developers have been (understandably) speculating that the Facebook redesign will go live to all users this Wednesday, 27 August 2008, because of a statement in the Facebook Developer Wiki page on User Logins in the new design that reads,

We are deprecating infinite session keys after the new profile launches to all users August 27, 2008.

However, it appears that this is likely not going to actually be the launch date. In a post last Thursday in the Facebook Developers Forum, the Facebook Platform Developer Operations & Support Team wrote,

We do not have a definite timeline set out for the permanent switch but it will most likely be past August 27th. We want to be certain to push out a stable and well received environment for both developers and the new profile on the whole, and we hope to have this finalized in approximately a month’s time. As soon as we have more specific dates and timelines, we will let you know.

Thanks,
the Facebook Platform Developer Operations & Support Team

The operative words here are “likely past August 27th” and “hope to have this finalized in approximately a month’s time.”

What that means exactly remains to be seen. Until then, developers will need to maintain versions of their apps for users in both the new and old designs.

  1. Liz Clover Says:

Please look at the groups on facebook that are against this ‘new’ version. It is AWFUL. Unclear, not thought-out, not user friendly and despite them saying they took note of feedback in the forum - they didnt.
Facebook could seriously loose out if they continue to force this change.

what happened to democracy? That would simply doesnt exist in facebook terms.

A shame, because it is a great site, easy to use and suitable for all age groups, not just the teens.

  2. Nathan Says:

Glad the date’s been pushed back.
The new look Facebook is really poor - very complicated, everything mashed together and looks pretty awful.

  3. Kris Kincade Says:

I have spent about a month on the “new” Failbook now, and I still find it cumbersome, unattractive, and annoying. I STILL hate the stupid changes. I can get around, but not as easily as I could in the old Facebook. It has taken about 3 weeks for me to learn all the feature changes and adapt them to my preferences so that I can use them. Frustrating!

My biggest beef is that the page with all of my application boxes does NOT allow me to “roll up” or “close” individual boxes for ease of locating them or moving them around. The old Facebook did it a lot better.

It is incredibly frustrating to spend vast amounts of time scrolling thru dozens and dozens of boxes on my page, and friend’s pages, to get to the application box I am looking for!

And where is it that Failbook is looking at what their users have to say? I have provided feedback many times and there is absolutely no response from anyone, nor a compilation or news bulletin of whether Failbook gives a damn what the users think or not. 224,000 people who really hate the “new” Failbook — in just one group alone, isn’t something to sneeze at. Someone should be paying attention and responding.

There are too many things wrong with the “new” Failbook and those bloopers should be addressed and revamped before it is finally force-fed to us.

  4. kristina Says:

my facebook just changed today about 10 minutes ago and i have to say that the new facebook is the most terrible layout.
its very complicated and everything is scattered all over the place.
the reason that i decided to stick with facebook in the first place was because it was simple, orginizd and easy to use.
now that the new facebook is up and has changed that whole feel i dont know how much i actually will use my facebook anymore.

  5. Kelly Says:

The new facebook is a graphic designers worst nightmare!!! It took me so long to figure out how to navigate throughout the site. Facebook is used by some people who do not have much computer knowledge and they will become lost within countless badly organized links and information. If they’re going to force users to use the new facebook I can see a lot of people deleting their accounts. Either come up with a new design or fire the graphic designers working with facebook. Just horrible.

  6. jesse bennett Says:

I agree with the other’s. Yes i find the new facebook sleek, yet it’s over-cramping everything and definitely not user-friendly. There is other ways to make facebook less “boxy” without redesigning the entire thing. I would give up facebook if it turned into a maze. Also, the new one seems too much inclined on teenagers, wasn’t facebook firstly designed for college students and their teachers. Lastly, check this group please, its nearly hit a quarter of a million people who dislike the new changes:
    http://www.facebook.com/groups.php?ref=sb#/group.php?gid=21195574231

  7. Lily Says:

From the group mentioned above (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21195574231),

here are some of the most frequently mentioned reasons why users dislike the new layout:

    1. People with disabilities are having a real hard time using it!

    2. Left side shortcuts to applications and groups are gone tied with the layout is too wide.

    3. There is too much blank space on the main profile page.

    4. The new layout is starting to look more and more like MySpace.

    5. Personality is gone from everyone’s main page as you can no longer minimize or move applications around the way you want to.

    6. The new layout is not centered and looks messy.

    7. The wall and mini-feed are now one thing, which is pointless as they are two separate things. Sure, you can filter out your own posts and others posts, but it looks messy anyways.

    8. The new layout looks confusing and is no longer user friendly.

    9. Applications and general info are on different pages.

    10. It requires greater system resources; the CPU usage jumps from 6%-14% on the old Facebook to 58%-60% on the new Facebook.

    11. The photos are no longer separated on “photos added by user” and “added by others,” and don’t provide any sort of numbering system. Photos you tag of yourself and photos tagged of you are now all grouped together.

    12. The area below the profile name is way too cluttered.

    13. The use of color is confusing. Before a colored bar indicated a new category of information, and everything below it pertained to that group of info. Now color may stand for a friend’s comment (since they’re mixed with feed) and it’s used to box up information or a new group of information. So inconsistent.

    14. Privacy issues.

    15. It’s slow even on the best computers with DSL connection. For those that have older computers and slower connection - it’s a killer.

  8. Crystal Says:

My biggest beef with the new layout is the combining of the minifeed and the wall. I prefered them seperate, much neater.

I also don’t like the relegating apps to a tab where they more then likely won’t be seen. Pretty much makes them pointless.

The new version needs alot of work yet, so I am glad that the switchover date has been pushed back. But why can’t facebook announce these dates on the sign in page or on the home page so everyone knows about it? Is it such a hardship to inform your users about the changes? It seems like we are always the last to know.

  9. vanessa Says:

i wish they would keep the old facebook as an option. im having a hard time coming to terms with the new layout, for reasons already stated. it’s just awful and there’s not much to like about it

  10. Jörg Parschau Says:

    Dear Facebook developers

Please give loyal members like us the option to keep the old layout. I’ve worked on my profile for about a year now. This is how I want to present myself and this is how I want other people to see me on Facebook. Please don’t destroy the effort I put into making this my personal representation online by forcing me to adapt your new layout.

I chose Facebook last year out of a number of networking sites because I liked your design best - the old one that is. The old design is clear and gives me the freedom to present myself through my personal selection of applications ON MY PROFILE PAGE. That’s the point for me, that the applications I chose come up on the profile page, so that I can decide how other people see me, without them having to click themselves through to new windows. The types of applications I chose, the order I put them in on my profile - all that is important to me.

I’ve been using Facebook in particular to present and share my photography work. Also in this respect, the old Facebook design was much better, clearer, more aesthetic, and it let you separate your own pictures better from the junk albums that other people tag you in.

I would never have joined Facebook if the design had been like the new one. It would be a shame if I had to leave Facebook now, after all the work I put in over the last year.

  11. jess Says:

The new facebook is crap. If it changes forever people will stop using it as they will get bored flicking from one page to the next! instead they could have given colour options for the background so you could make it more personal (instead of the boring white) and add better applications for adding personal photos so you could make slideshows, that would be cool.

  12. Tori G. Says:

This design is absolutely terrible. Pardon my French, but WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING? I think I know why they don’t tell us about these “updates”– they are so God-awful that they’re ashamed to admit them to us on the sign-in page. Facebook, listen to us. All of us. This is not a website designed more for teenagers. Speaking as one, I believe that it is designed for NO ONE.

  13. Mark Says:

Not one person has anything positive to say about the new layout. Clearly you’ve wasted time trying to be proactive when it wasn’t needed. If you remove the choice between new and old versions i hope another company takes the old layout and re-launches so you can watch everyone flock away from your site.

This site and the obscene levels of money made from it is all down to the users, so listen to what the people say not a board of suit wearing 40yr old finance moguls who think a reshuffle is in order to avoid the dreaded “complacency” they once read about in a text book.

    idiots.

  14. elyse Says:

i like the new layout. i like not having to see others’ applications.

i dont like the mini feed and wall post together and i liked seeing the wall pot number. but other than that it’s way better.

  15. Brandon Says:

Thanks goodness the date was pushed back! The new facebook sucks!!!! I hate it!! facebook please keep the old! Give us the choice to use the new or the old like myspace does so that way everybody is happy! But as for me I hate the new facebook.

  16. Kathleen Says:

MySpace….this appears to be a poor imitation of MySpace. BIG WHOOP! I use (old)FaceBook because it was alot more fun and interactive and I met more people. Now? Yeah that’s going to happen…not!
As one of those who are disabled and having trouble using the new(?)version, as mentioned by Lily, I have sent numerous feedbacks pointing out that the layout is not useable for those with certain types of visual senstivities. It’s offcentered, oversized on one page then normal on another and a little more centered and then oversized and slight centered, then offcentered and normal and now I have a headache and motion sickness from just going from page to page. I can’t stay on the profile page long enough to try and navigate it because it is so offcentered and oddly sized. less than 30 secs is my limit.
I thought this was going to innovative and fun when we were first told about it. Disappointed is an understatement! Besides, how can those who are responsible for this debacle honestly believe that a test group of 100,000 is a good representation of the millions of users. One protest groups is almost triple that number. Hint Hint?

  17. Laura Says:

    Dear Mark Zuckerberg,

    Why?
There’s no need to ‘fix’ something thats not broken.

Don’t fall victim to homogenizing (and failing) like other sites such as Bebo, Hi5, Myspace, and Friendster.

  18. maria Says:

i hate the new facebook coz i cant see the wall post number.. and i would like to see other’s spplications directly in their profils

  19. nadine Says:

new facebook sucks, i like the old one its easier
”There’s no need to ‘fix’ something thats not broken.” why did u changed it i donno ! :S

  20. Natalie Brown Says:

No one has anything good to say about the new layout. How THICK do u have to be to still go ahead with the change! I used to have a bebo account which I stopped using in favour of facebook, think I’ll start using that again!

  21. Nathan Says:

Natalie’s got a point…I’ve heard nobody say that they would use the “new” facebook over the version we have now.

I really can’t understand why they would change it…maybe just for change sake. I’m wondering whether they are attempting to tap into the MySpace market (something which would be a mistake - they are two separate entities, which people use for different things.

I could tell things were changing for the worse, when they for some unknown reason got rid of the Network page - surely that was the original point of Facebook - linking up with people in your college/school/business etc.

Aesthetics alone the new Facebook is pretty awful - lots of white space, applications being squeezed down/omitted all together from our main pages..and then the whole merging of the wall and mini feed.

There was really nothing to “fix” with the current version, I don’t know what the developers are aiming for here. So far, all I’ve seen are tens of thousands of people unhappy with the new look, many of whom would favour MySpace and Bebo over this new look.

If this change goes ahead (and we lose the option to choose to use the old or new version), Facebook are making a massive mistake.

  22. Sean Says:

A few have stated here that NO ONE is saying good things about the new facebook. I do. I am all for it. I believe there are a few things that need work. Things like the wall/mini-feed issue. But that has already been mentioned.

You don’t hear much from the people that like it because people who are content with a product or service rarely speak up. But most people will lash out immediately when faced with something they don’t like. I mean really! Do you call your cable company every day to say “Hi. My cable is working fine again today. I like you.”? Hell no. But gods forbid that one channel goes fuzzy. “What is wrong with you people? I pay for these channels. “. See? If not then your education system has failed you and I am sorry about that.

  23. Kyrsten Says:

Most of the people who have left their comments on here have focused on the negative, but there are some positive aspects of the new Facebook. This isn’t an accurate representation of the Facebook population, because people who are miffed by the new new layout are more likely to search for an article like this and leave a negative comment. I doubt that Facebook is trying to be like Myspace, considering that, at least in my personal experience, the use of Myspace has declined some bit in the past few years. There is not an accurate representation of the Facebook population because those who are happy with the new layout are satisfied and not looking to instigate change by creating a group. I do agree, however, that if so many people are unhappy with the new structure of the website that there should be some kind of choice, although I would like to present that we are creatures of habit and if given a chance, this site would be as easy to use as it was before. My 50 year old mother has no problem navigating the website and so I disagree that it was necessarily constructed with the intentions aimed at a younger age group, rather I think it was intended to aid those who are new to the system in general.

  24. Jenine Tepsa Says:

I can not stand the new Facebook.
I do like that you can change your wall post’s on the old facebook by fixing them. That’’s called edit post. I don’t see that feture on the new Facebook. I liked that now I didn’t see it on the New Facebook. I like the Status box now it’s not there on the new Facebook.
I like the old Facebook better.

Facebook is and was fun. Know they ruined it with the new Facebook. That was a bad Idea.
The old Facebook is more fun.

The new Facebook has wrecked Facebook. I like the old Facebook.

Also have you noticed that the new facebook looks like Myspace. I don’t like that idea at all. Why have to sites that look like each other like The New Facebook and Myspace.

Yes. I agree that the new Facebook is like myspace. If I wanted myspace I would be using it more.

I don’t like A blank page like the new Facebook or the Ad’s on the page of the new Facebook.

By the way the new Facebook is very unorganized. How can you say it is when. It’s not. The old Facebook is alot better and Organized better.
I do not like the new Facebook layout were you can’t see everthing on one page. I don’t like my stuff unorganized in clolums.

  25. Eleanor Says:

It’s horrible. It’s so confusing; I have no clue where my other apps boxes are. I like the old profiles, because I have all of my applications on one page.

  26. Michael Says:

I was very strongly against it, and even joined all the groups against it, but if you haven’t gone on it in the past couple of weeks, do so now, because it’s definitely a little better. I still like the old one better, but they’re making progress.

I, too, am glad they pushed it back, though, because it definitely wasn’t ready.

  27. Piritta Myllys Says:

It would be good to hear some feedback from Facebook in reference to whether they have taken into consideration the negative feedback that many people have provided them in reference to the new facebook.

Also, why can’t Facebook provide news updates on the sign-in page so that everyone is aware as to what is happening and when!!??

I have not yet met one person that has liked the new version.

The old version was clean and simple to use and appealed to all ages, including the more mature & professional age group. The new version on the other hand seems to cater more for the likes of teenagers!

In general, I think the new Facebook;-

    1. Lacks personality, since now you can’t decide which applications are displayed on your profile and they all look the same.

    2. The Wall and the Minifeed put together is plain messy. The ‘Wall’ is the most important application for many and hence should be kept separate.

    3. The photos a) appear in the wrong order and b) Photo’s that you’ve added yourself appear mixed with photo’s that others have added of you. ie, recently I added new photos to my profile of my travels only to realise a friend of mine had added a zillion ‘old’ photos and tagged me in them. Hence, my own NEW photo’s weren’t showing but the old ones were.

    4. The layout overall is just messy and confusing not to mention the colouring, highlighting of text which gives you a headache.

If you must go ahead with this change(which is a shame), why not at least give people the option to choose between the new version and the old version? That way everyone will be happy and nobody has to stop using Facebook altogether.

Overall, I think Facebook is wonderful networking tool but I hope it listens to it’s users.

  28. Judy Says:

My biggest problem with the new FB is that they have shown no respect at all for user feedback and preferences. They are simply not listening. I understand that FB is a business. I understand that FB is trying to turn a profit. I am ok with that. Users assist them in their earnings by being part of the FB community. We may not be advertisers or developers, but we should have some voice, and we have been silenced. I have not seen one clue that FB has listened to any “feedback” provided to them except for this announcement that they are delaying the forced use of the new FB. The worst thing about the new FB is the way we are not allowed to personalize our profile page. Mine was all organized with some apps open and others closed. It took a lot of thought and intentionality to get it just the way I wanted it. The new FB completely oversteps any user capabilities to organize their own pages.

  29. Eric Says:

I personally love the new layout. I don’t really have any supporting argument other than it’s much easier to navigate profiles and pictures and such. After the developer platform opened and millions of apps were built, I couldn’t easily navigate profiles. Now with the boxes tab, life is much better… I hate most of those apps.

  30. Danielle Says:

As some have said, there was nothing wrong with the “old Facebook”.
I was over obsessed with Bebo. But as soon as they changed and you didn’t have a choice and because everything was oh so complicated, I switched to Facebook. It has been a part of my life for several months. And then they decide “Oh, let’s make everything ‘easier’.”
Newsflash! It is not easier. I have joined all of the groups that are against the new Facebook, because that is how much I despise it.
It is unattractive, complicated, messy, and just plain boring.
Thank you Myspace for letting us have a choice whether or not we want to use the old or new Myspace. Thank you Facebook for giving us that option as well, but now you decide you’re going to make it where we dont have that option? That is messed up and wrong in so many ways.
Because so many people are against the new Facebook, I believe you should listen more to the people want and not what the guys at the desk want. Yeah they may be signing your check because Facebook is a hit, but when all your people on Facebook leave *thanks to the guys signing the check’s idea of changing*, they aren’t gonna be paying much longer.
Listen to the people. We are the ones that use it, not them.

We should still have the decision to use the old Facebook.

And when that website does come along and steal Facebook’s old version, I’m going to them and dumping the new Facebook.
    New never necessarily means better.

  31. Jon Says:

The new facebook is absolutely horrible!

  32. Heidi Says:

The new facebook is absolutely terrible. If they force it on us, I’ll deactivate my facebook and leave the site for good. The developers should really give a listen to what people are saying.

  33. Rebecca Says:

I don’t really have much to add, but if people want to keep the old facebook, just don’t get rid of the bttton that lets them keep it that way.

I like using the old facebook. I tried the new one, I didn’t like it, but I could just click back. Now, apparently we’re going to be forced to use the new one?

    Why?

  34. Isaiah Says:

1> It is totally up to the developers to change the layout, its not like we are PAYING them to let us use their site.

2> Did any of you guys even respond to the feedback yourselves? Maybe if you did it wouldn’t be designed in such a way that displeases you so much.

  35. Kylie Says:

I voiced my concerns about the new look right from the start. As stated earlier, Failbook said they listened to our feedback, but it’s blatantly obvious they didn’t care and went ahead with what they wanted anyway.

Isaiah - sure we’re not paying them to use their site, but without us they wouldn’t have a site!

  36. Sami Idriss Says:

Please , I want the new layout for my facebook.

  37. Ian Bartlett Says:

Can’t really add anything that hasn’t already been said. Just leave the option button for people to use the old or new Facebook and then everyone is happy - The new Facebook isn’t a patch on the old one in my opinion, but others will disagree - SO KEEP THE OPTION BUTTON AT LEAST!!!!

  38. Inside Facebook » 60% of Facebook Users Now Viewing the “New” Facebook Says:

[...] there are some vocal users dissatisfied with the new design (check out the comments on our last post), the transition seems to be going relatively smoothly [...]

  39. David Says:

I have myspace. I have facebook. They both keep revamping and changing and turning into one another so why dont you guys just merge? You could call it myspacebook.com and give me 12% of the advertising income for my brilliant brain-fart.

  40. Guy Says:

I think the new Facebook is a much much much better iteration of the old. The patterns are smooth, natural, familiar and intuitive.

People dislike change, and they meet it with resistance every time. The last time Facebook made changes to the profile everyone was up in arms. What happened? They grew to love the new design so much that they’re up in arms again over the introduction of this new model. I say, let it go. Embrace change.

And if you can’t embrace change, be the change. I provided Facebook with a healthy amount of feedback during the betas, and some of the changes were noted. Others, not so much. Such is life.

  41. Alyana L Says:

I personally like the new facebook,
everything is on one wall, and its more.. advanced?
I do miss some of the old features though,
but new facebook with colour would be cool. Also if the list for inbox came down when your mouse moved to it.

  42. Danielle McCullough Says:

Please don’t change it!!! PLEASEE FACEBOOK!!! I don’t see the need. if you could keep it the way it is…that being that people can choose whether they want to new or old facebook, i think that would be best. I’m a teenager, and I’ve been using facebook for about 2 years. I have not, and will never get sick of the old facebook. I really dislike the new facebook. It’s so confusing and unorganized. I don’t see myself using facebook at all if it stays this way. I’ve tried several times to get adjusted to the new layout but i can’t help feeling extremely overwlemed and aggravated. I just can’t do it. It’s impossible to look through friends profiles. It was soo much easier when everything was on one page. This will be a BIG mistake for facebook. Just give people the option…

  43. Davey J Says:

The new layout is not user friendly and has a bad flow. very difficult to navigate through…. please don’t force us to change.

  44. Tim Says:

The new facebook is horrible - very confusing, poorly designed and lacks the charm of the original.

It is a shame that facebook always seem to feel the need to tinker with things that are working fine.

I can’t speak for every facebook user, but I will certainly be spending less time on the site once this new design takes over.

  45. sharron b Says:

omg this is the worst site ever now :(
it looks so unorginised and very unprofessional!!
i dont see why they have to change it as most people disagree.
i dont think i will be using the site after the change as it is soooooo confusing.
    back to Bebo for me!!!!

  46. Gill Says:

For all the people out there who like the new version because it hides the excess apps-

Have you tried clicking on the apps you don’t want to see to “roll up” or minimise them? Works just the same, and it’ll even enable you pick and choose in case there are some that you -do- want to see.

    Nifty, eh?

  47. Mahmoud Swieti Says:

The new face book is the start point of the death of facebook.com… it looks worse than my space, I’m glad i’ve kept my “my space” profile, i’m simple quitting facebook if they force this switch

  48. k Says:

It seems very odd (oxymoronic even) to have a social networking program that relies on a community of loyal users make a move that is clearly turing off the vast majority of its audience.

While I understand the “we are not paying for this service” angle, the developers have to be wary of the fact that social networking sites can rise and fall like the tides if they aren’t careful. People’s opinions truly do matter.

Now to gripe: the worst thing for me is that the wall and mini-feed have become the same thing. It was SO much clearer before. I honestly can’t stand it.

I truly hope the developers take everyone’s feedback seriously.

  49. Ryan O'Neil Seaton Says:

I hate the facts that they have chopped up the info and applications and separated it from the wall.

The New facebook needs to give users the option of whether or not they wish to have their applications and info listed under the wall tab while maintaining the option of creating custom tabs.

Forcing the tab separation is ridiculous. This the main layout issue.

There are other problems that other folk have outlined.

  50. ben Says:

i think it’s good. stop your whinging you little babies. besides, shouldn’t we all just use it less? start going outside maybe? i think i might do that now actually. how do you cancel your facebook account?

  51. Austin Williams Says:

Please dont change it.. push the date back to.. forever

  52. Kristen Carbone Says:

Please please please please PLEASE NO! I know many people disagree with the new fbook (myself included), but can’t we just keep the switch option? That way, those who like the new one can use it and those who like the old one can keep it the way it was. My big gripes:

    >Don’t like the apps on a page? Just click to minimize!
    >Photos are organized clearly, in order by ones you’ve added and ones others have.
    >The old layout is clear, centered, and ORGANIZED! The new one is wide, cumbersome, difficult to navigate, and most horrendously OFF-CENTER! You say you want better aesthetics and a sleeker design? There’s nothing SLEEK about feeling like you have to lean to the left in order to properly view your page.
    >Separate news and mini-feed. The mini-feed is so that others can generally see what I’ve been up to for a few days in a clear, concise format. I DON’T NEED TO KNOW WHAT I’VE DONE WITH MYSELF, I ALREADY KNOW!! I’d rather know what OTHERS have been doing, I know what I did I’m me. Duh.

These are basic gripes. Ignore them at your own peril.

  53. Heather Says:

I can not stand the new facebook. I do not want everything on different pages. I do not want to have to click around searching for things. I like that everything is nice and uniform by being on one singe page (no way to get lost in the melee.) I don’t want to do click around to find things in several different pages on my facebook page and I surely don’t want to do it on other people’s pages.

I probably will just go back to using myspace again, if you proceed with forcing us to use the new cluttered facebook.

  54. Grace Says:

You’re going to lose loyal users by doing this. People like Facebook, changing it isn’t going to accomplish anything…you’re trying to improve something that doesn’t need improved. I agree with most of the above users…you need to listen to us and realize that 95% of your users dislike the new Facebook. For those that don’t, just keep the old Facebook option!

  55. kathleen Says:

My biggest issue is that I can’t arrange things exactly how I want - I should determine what’s on my main profile (landing) page, not Facebook. I can do this on Yahoo and iGoogle, why not Facebook? I like the Tabs idea, I just don’t like the rigidity of the Facebook team’s decisions - it’s not your page, it’s mine.

And I like being able to close up boxes on my and on other people’s pages. Why can’t I close up boxes? And why do I have a separate tab for boxes? Separate mini and news feeds, give me more room on my Profile to put boxes that I want people to see when they first come to my profile.

I like my info in a separate tab, but who’s idea was it to make my pages and groups part of that tab? why can’t I put one or the other in the left nav? Why can’t I arrange my PAGE THE WAY I WANT TO?

  56. Oscar Says:

Please leave the old facebook alone. The new one is so bad and everything is so cluttered. You should crucify the person who came up with that design. Remember Social Networking sites come and go by phases. First Myspace then Facebook do you really want to risk this change and possibly leave the option open for some other college kids to get together and make a site ten times better. Which by the way is pretty likely to happen. This can possibly be the last move you make before some other site comes out. Listen to the users because if it were not for them you would be nothing.

  57. Kelly Says:

The new facebook is absolutely the worst idea in the world. Remember New Coke? Yeah, this is FB’s version of THAT train wreck.

Seriously, designers… I know you all might need a job to do, but if you want to go and mess around with a perfectly fine design, the LEAST you can do is make the new one OPTIONAL.

The whole reason I loved facebook and transferred from myspace was because it was SO much simpler, clearer, and less cluttered. Then, of course, came going public. Oh, okay, I figured that I could handle that… as nice as it was to have FB being a college place, I guess I could see opening it. The networks allowed me to stay within my institution, anyway.

Then came the slew of applications. While some are interesting and fun and add more to the procrastination aspect of FB that most school-aged kids love, overall applications are another bad idea. Facebook is NOT myspace and the apps just allowed it to morph a bit more. It is extremely annoying to have to sift through piles of trash (greenspaces, pets, hatching eggs, quiz results, w…t…F!) just to find a wall.

BUT, again, I figured I could deal. No one was forcing ME to put apps on MY page, so it was fine.

But this redesign? Not only is it incredibly confusing and basically negates the entire reason to have a facebook page (the quick access of information and keeping up with friends). It’s NOT just that we’re not used to the new layout… it’s that the new layout does not lend itself to people GETTING used to it! It’s a mess. And the lack of networks is completely disturbing.

There is not one positive change with the new design that I have been able to find. I have YET to talk to a single person at my school who LIKES the change. So I must ask, why?

Facebook has NEVER given its users the answer to WHY they are doing this change. Not the REAL answer, anyway. Because the new design sure as hell doesn’t simplify or streamline anything.

I don’t know who your test subjects were, but, Facebook, you need to LISTEN to your users… the MAJORITY of your users.

This redesign is a bad, bad, bad idea. Facebook has changed a lot since I’ve been signed up, but at least up until now the changes weren’t really FORCED upon me.

    In short: Redesign sucks.

  58. Renee Says:

I don’t like the new facebook.I have tried using it but don’t like how the wall and the minifeed is the same thing. i like to keep my wall posts displayed on my page but now eveytime I do or recieve something on facebook it pushes the next wall post in line out of sight. thats not cool. i understand you want to make some changes and it’s part of a business to keep the product changing and upsacling as much as possible. But please re-think the new facebook design. I don’t know one person at all that like the new design. the only people i have heard say anything good about it is your company owners. thank you for your time.

[...] developers will need to maintain versions of their apps for users in both the new and old designs. Inside Facebook

  60. Salman Says:

    very complicated and irritating.
besides, i dont understand the need to force a new layout when clearly current users are satisfied with the present layout. Adding thousands of these useless applications to facebook was already bad enough…

if you must bring this new layout into the fold, at least give us the option to choose which one to use. I can assure you the classic layout will stil remain popular amongst the users.

  61. De Anna Aston Says:

I dislike the new facebook intensely. I like facebook just the way it is. Please do not change it. The new facebook looks less personal and I dislike the new layout. Facebook is like a home online. No one comes into my home and says, let’s change your furniture, wall colors, etc. So whoever wants to change my facebook home, please get out.

  62. Selena Says:

Judy, I agree completely. I hate how they don’t even react to our opinions.

The new facebook is AWFUL. At least let us keep the option for the old version…that way EVERYONE will be satisfied! SHEESH!

  63. bree Says:

The new layout blows, stop trying to be myspace. Myspace sucks.

  64. carly Says:

why are you changing the facebook layout? practically EVERYONE hates it why are you changing something that doesnt need to be fixed? can you at least give us the option of not having to change it?

  67. Kathy Rintoul Says:

I do not enjoy this new facebook at all! I did like at first how you had a choice to switch to the old facebook, but after playing a few applications on facebook I am automatically forced to go into new facebook mode. My browser is always freezing and shutting down! I have a decent computer, not a slow sluggish one. It gets frustrating that everytime I am using applications in facebook my browser freezes and closes on me. The old facebook is wonderful because your whole personality is in that page. Some of my few choice applications do not even show up in the new facebook!

  68. Kathy Rintoul Says:

I also forgot to add.. that since this new facebook has been forced upon me. I am not using it as much as I used to! I used to enjoy logging in daily to do things I did.

  69. Elisa Says:

The new facebook is horrible! Make it mandatory and you will make a lot of people mad. Not a good thing, when there are so many rival companies out there…

  70. Brian Says:

OK, so first off, it is up to facebook to change THEIR site how THEY want, they have NO obligation to do what anyone else says, they will CONSIDER what the users have to say. We don,t pay them to use their site, and Kylie said that without us they wouldn’t have a site? Well, there are 100 MILLION FACEBOOK USERS and all the ANTI NEW FACEBOOK groups only equal out to about 1 MILLION. That is ONE PERCENT of their users. Even if EVERY PERSON who didn’t want the new facebook layout deactivated their accounts, they would still have around 99 MILLION users. I have been using the new facebook since they first put out the option and it HAS been tweaked here and there since then. Another thing I have noticed is that I rarely get those facebook error pages that I got ALL THE TIME with the old facebook. Times change, adapt, get over it, it’s their site, DEAL WITH IT. 99 MILLION VS 1 MILLION.

  71. Emily Says:

Horrible design! Hate it. Why should we be forced into this design. eugh! I’m staying with the old facebook for now, until i’m forced to switch over, then I don’t know, I might deactivate.

  72. The Voice of the People Says:

When Facebook came out as a way for students to get in contact with friends they hadn’t seen or would not see for some time, it was hailed as the culmination of years of development in online personal blogs. It was then expanded with a number of applications, some Facebook designed, some useless clutter. At this point what was once the top product in its field began to shift to the over-cluttered and all-around unsafe environment of competitors like Myspace and Xanga. And yet, we all stayed faithful to it. The fact is, Facebook shouldn’t be for everyone, preteens do not it to keep in touch with friends and child molestors did need another haven of misguided youth. In opening Facebook to everyone, the developers clearly made a push to gain the upper hand in this market and good for them, it was a small change. We stayed with Facebook, nothing was better. The friends system allowed for easy communication, privacy settings assure that only the right people can view it (at least they did) and the simple, user friendly messaging, picture, wall and group systems allowed users to have a safe, enjoyable experience.
And now, after realizing that users would accept these small changes, developers have taken the next step in destroying what makes Facebook great. The new profile is broken up with separate info pages just like Xanga, the wall has been destroyed to create a feed crossed between the already stalker-friendly mini-feed and the wall posts. It has the appearance of a webpage designed by a child with no real focus. I write here with the voice of every user. One page, one profile. Keep it simple. Maybe as developers they think they came up with some great new features, but the fact is not all of us are programming junkies and Facebook is for us a simple, user friendly way to communicate. Naturally things in this business need to evolve to keep up, but Facebook must realize that they are already at the top. Do not ruin it, I do not understand how you expect to make more money on advertisements if no one wants to visit pages. Please for the sake of everyone, do not go through with this, Facebook is good, its developers must be top-notch, and I would hate to see their high opinion fall.

    What do we say people?

  73. Jacklynn Says:

I hate how there is so much focus on the wall now. And all the applications get squished to the side.

  74. Natasha Says:

    Dear Facebook developers,

What the hell are you guys doing?!
The old facebook was fine and easy-going.
But now you guys F&$ked it up to hell.
Don’t try to compete with Myspace.
    You’re only screwing yourself over.
Me and many other people loved
    Facebook for what it was.
    Please don’t change it.

  75. Carolyn Says:

Has nobody there ever heard the expression “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”? This new layout is cumbersome and too time consuming to navigate through. It is slow and many times, it freezes my fairly new computer. I have requested my friends to investigate other alternatives. You cannot recognize Facebook anymore with this new look.

  76. Jeremy Brooker Says:

There’s not a single Facebook user I know that likes the “new design.” If they change the site and force everyone to switch to this new layout (so they can sell more ad space I’m guessing?), the majority of Facebook’s bloggers/users will likely drop their accounts and switch to other social networking sites (like MySpace). The layout is muddled, incoherent and un-intuitive. I’ve only known one other site that looked fairly similar to this (Xuqa.com), and they’re known (or should I say, not very well known at all) for being a second-rate copycat social networking site with very little usage. The people at Facebook are smarter than this, and I would absolutely hate to see a move like this ruin Facebook’s good reputation.

  77. Tareq A Says:

I really see no reason to make a mandatory switch. If Facebook is having problems implementing its new layout, great. I haven’t met a single person who prefers the new Facebook to the old one.

  78. Josh Says:

At first when i saw the new facebook, i thought it looked cool, however it was not very easy to adjust to. There are many problems with it and it is more confusing. However the bottom line is that it is their site, and they can do what they want. They have plenty of good designers and everything will eventually be fine. The real problem is not the new site itself, but people not wanting to adapt to it. I just think that they should push back the time when it goes permanent until everything is ironed out. It many not seem good now, but i’m sure it will function much better once it gets going

  81. Sproul Says:

It seems that most of the vocal people are the ones that dislike the new facebook. I prefer the new over the old and I think that the people that like the new are simply not saying anything. Thus, all the comments saying “nobody likes it” and “everybody hates it” seem invalid.
I know the first time I saw it, I was impressed. They’ve done quite a bit of improvement and continue to do so. Sorry to those of you that haven’t spent enough time on here to figure it out, but if you’re on that little, I don’t think your opinion means much anyway.

  82. JB Says:

I just don’t think I’ll get the same experience out of facebook as I think the new layout is confusing and jumbled. I would much prefer to have everything accessible on each page for friends. Many others I know on facebook think that the current style is easier and better.

  83. Kris Says:

you narrow minded idiots, just let the god damn developers get on with improving their site, the new site is sleeker, runs much much quicker and is ADVANCEMENT… christ if everyone was like you it’d still be like it was the day it was launched

    its changing… deal with it

ps it looks great , its really easy to use after a day of using it, you just have given up in advance get a life

  84. aleksander korsnes Says:

i must agree with the majority here, i dont like the new FB design at all, why ? all the reasons are provided on this page.

  85. drew Says:

What has annoyed me in particular is that while users have been given an option to submit feedback to the new system/layout, facebook never issued a letter explaining why they are tinkering and why the changes might be necessary and how users will be benifited etc. As it stands, changing a simple and effective system that has revolutionsed social networking to a more cluttered format makes no sense whatsoever! We have been left in the dark.

  86. Kure Says:

    It is horrible.
    It is just horrible.
like liz said, its not well thought out or organized, and it isn’t user-friendly either.
    it SUCKS.

  87. Sarosh Says:

Should’nt social groups like these be a little more easier for people?

Should’nt you be presenting what people want?

The old facebook is much more better than the new one. Reason- You already have like have the people saying this, secondly it is true that people thought the old one was again too complicated and an invidual would wanna have practise, but you dont even have all your stuff easily previewed on the new one.

If you don’t wanna loose members i dont think you should be promoting it.
A person before logging in would be like..ohh gosh not the complicated thing again..and wouldnt wanna do it..
So please look into the matter, facebook is an amazing place to be, just dont spoil it for others!

its so confusing and everyone is used to this facebook now so why change it? obviously more people hate it then like it. so sucks.

  89. Rene Says:

Has it occurred to anyone that the new facebook layout might be purposefully designed to push users out?

I have not taken an in-depth look at the new layout, but when I tried it a couple of weeks ago the overwhelming impression I had was chaos, badly organized, poorly designed.
The current layout is modifiable and easy on the eyes. If Facebook makes the current layout unavailable they are going to see a lot of people walk away.

  90. Farah Says:

    “chaos, badly organized, poorly designed.”

    Exactly Rene! I wonder:

    1) What was wrong with the old Facebook anyway?

    2) Why are we being FORCED to move to the new one? Is it because the developers who maintain Facebook don’t want to maintain two sites?

    3) Has Facebook bothered to compare the number of groups who are AGAINST the new facebook to the number that are FOR? There’s both, but from my preliminary research there’s a ton more AGAINST the new facebook.

    4) Is anyone even listening? Does Mark Zuckerberg even care what we think? He’s rich enough to retire now anyway.

There seems to be an assumption that facebook is so ubiquitous they can do whatever they want. Bad assumption when the USERS are being ticked off. First it was beacon stalking us, now a completely new layout that sucks.

  91. Johnsie Says:

The people who are against new facebook are very vocal…

Many people are standing up for old facebook because it is good and has fans. Hardly anyone is standing up for new facebook because it isn’t as good and only a few people think it’s good. Simple as that.

Application developers lose out big time with the new facebook. It was the applications that kept people coming back and made facebook interesting. Facebook owes alot to the application developers but has now effectively slapped them in the face.

Users now have no ability to change what their profile page looks like.

  92. Tamar Says:

This has been said again and again, but it bears repeating–facebook is NOT listening to the millions and millions of people it services. The main problem with these sites is how quickly they seem to descend into poor interface in the name of ‘progress’ (i.e. friendster); now I check my friendster profile maybe once a year. The newsfeeds, minifeeds, and godawful applications were bad enough–LISTEN TO YOUR CLIENTELE, FACEBOOK. You started clean and simple, stay that way or you’ve just lost yourself another member.

  93. sam Says:

    i dislike the new design.

    period.

  94. Omar Says:

I imagine the new facebook was created by monkeys with bananas sitting at a round table. It sucks! I hope the did not waste a lot of money in this cr@a. ha! Now facebook is as bad and as low as myspace.

  95. anthony Says:

OMFG DONT CHANGE THE OLD FACEBOOK INTO THE NEW ONE PERMANETLY PEOPLE WILL HATE IT
dont you recive enough email or groups saying THE NEW FACEBOOK LAYOUT IS REALLY TERRIBLE??
you will probably lose alot of peoples facebooks because you were to ignorant to listen to all of out complains

  96. Evan Says:

The new layout is horrid. At least give us the option to keep using the old format.

  97. Louise Says:

OMG! What are you thinking with this whole new design?? I cannot get over how awful it is!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t have it as a permanent thing. Give people the option to have it or not. I think the fact that your profile is now over what?? About 3 or 4 pages which you have to click on to get up is very rubbish. I want my profile kept as it is thank you! Thats why I signed up to facebook.
Please please PLEASE do not change it!!!

  102. Josh Says:

Wouldnt a poll be easy enough and relative to this subject people are commenting about.

  103. Laurie Says:

There are so many people against the new facebook and some who actually like it. The simpliest solution is to have an option that people can choose between the old and the new facebook. Everyone wins that way.

Myself, i want to stick with the old facebook, I hate the new one - it slows my computer way down. And as someone said above

“my biggest issue is that I can’t arrange things exactly how I want - I should determine what’s on my main profile (landing) page, not Facebook”

    exactly right.

PLEASE HEAR OUR VOICES, let the people choose between the old and the new facebook.

  104. Hope Says:

I think that the old facebook is easier to navigate and I see no reason to change things. The new facebook is very hard to read, the whole page is confusing, I can’t display my personal things–like favorite movies, etc, my bumper stickers, and it seems like such wasted space. Please allow us to choose between the old facebook and the new one. I think that would be the compromise, and everyone would be happy. Thanks.

  105. Carissa Says:

    The new facebook is horrid.
It is just too frustrating, and it makes me want to forget about facebook altogether.
If they go through with this, its goodbye facebook for me.

  106. Lindsay Rose Says:

I don’t know who designed this new Facebook, but I’d like to smack them. I can’t believe that they accepted this as a design, I made better websites than this in computer classes I couldn’t care less about in middle school. The site is insane, unorganized, impersonal, and quite frankly, retarded. Seriously, why the hell would they change it, BS personal gain, suck it up and keep the old Facebook. Or make it personal gain…but make it look like something, not this unorganized shit.

  107. Ron Says:

Really. I hope the new facebook is never forced upon all the users of the good “old” facebook. Facebook should allow its users a choice to either keep the old way or use the new way. None of my friends have found the new facebook easy to use, fun, or as convenient as the original. Please don’t force all users to adopt the new facebook. Please.

  108. Diego Says:

I just can’t understand the reasons for the obligatory change to the “new facebook”. I have some hundreds of friends in facebook and none of them understand why it has to be changed. I believe the reason of the amazing success of FB was that everyone could easily surf through it without trouble, but apparently the goal nowadays is to make it a lot more complicated… NO NEW FACEBOOK!

  109. Susan Says:

I hate the new facebook. Every time it switches me over, I switch right back. :-P

  110. Steve Says:

@pearl: this isn’t the 20th century. it’s the 21st. Wow. Yes, the new design is horrible. Does Facebook have the maturity & humility to backtrack on this? Unlikely. We’re stuck with it.

  111. Matt Wilson Says:

i stopped using that bebo after they changed their user interface, ive seen the new facebook and am not a happy bunny… if im forced to change i may got back to my space.

some how i dont think that im the only one thinking this, maybe in the next month or 2 face book will have to change “80 million active members” to “5 million very pissed off but still active members”

  112. Evan Says:

Ha ha. Democracy. You expect them to not change it because you don’t want it. YOU didn’t create facebook. It’s not up to a vote. I’m sure they will listen, but it’s not up to the users. It’s up to the creators. Get over it everyone. It’s not that big a deal.

  113. Bobbi Says:

Ok, seriously, this new facebook SUCKS!!! It is way too complicated and not user friendly at all! There’s a reason facebook is better than myspace, and thats cuz its user friendly! And what’s up with the profiles???!!! the makers of facebook are trying to fix things that don’t need fixing! sometimes its just better to leave things alone!

  114. Mark Says:

Wow! for such a high profile site this is really a HUGE step backwards.

As a graphic designer of 10 years, the main questions to ask (particularly with regards to web development) are:

    1) Is it simple?
    2) Is it easy to use?

Facebook have suceeded in making a simple web page hugely compicated and cluttered.
There is no logical evolution of the last one at all - this not an improvement.

    WHAT A MESS!!

  115. David Says:

You speak of democracy, but we all now that when ignorant people like you vote, it just doesn’t work. People are too afraid of change and getting out of their comfort zones. You may say that your going to move away from facebook, but in reality you’re not. The new facebook is good, its more modern and takes a lot less time to load. If you say it’s not “User friendly” it is because you do not want to learn. People complain about everything, no doubt about that, but it is rubbish that people complain about things like facebook. If you have that much time that you can follow blogs and forums to voice your opinions on a social network then I think you need to look at yourself and ask “What am I doing with my life?”

  116. Simon Says:

Initially I hated the new facebook but decided that as none of us really like change very much, I would stick with it. For over a month now I have used the new version and having got used to it and found my way round I find that I still don’t like it.

It’s complicated for no good reason.
It seems slower than the ‘old’ version.
It has lost some of its features i.e. networks and the ability to delete certain things, as well as having your own pics seperate from ones of you tagged by others.
    It’s not user friendly.

The petition against the new version on facebook currently has almost HALF A MILLION members!!! That is quite a strength of feeling. Please listen to us facebook developers.

It wasn’t broke. Why would you fix it?

  117. Tara Says:

If the “New Facebook” is pushed upon us, we will lose all that really is Facebook. :(

I really liked Facebook because of it’s minimalist format, it’s a shame that they had to wreck a good thing. I realize they are just trying to make it better, but I think they failed in not doing enough consumer research before making such drastic changes and then making those changes MANDITORY.
What I really didn’t like was that all the applications I had displayed on my page were now pushed onto its own separate little tab, not even displayed on my wall, which is the whole point!

I really hope that they see the signs here and think twice about these changes, it is clear that the majority of users aren’t happy with it.

  118. Robin Says:

I’ve seen the new facebook and immediately went back to the old fb. The new facebook is no where close to being user friendly, and it’s so cluttered and extremely hard on the eyes. If facebook forces this change then I will be forced to delete my account, as will many others.

  119. mike Says:

    I agree with Robin.
David, “The new facebook is good, its more modern and takes a lot less time to load. If you say it’s not “User friendly” it is because you do not want to learn. People complain about everything, no doubt about that, but it is rubbish that people complain about things like facebook. If you have that much time that you can follow blogs and forums to voice your opinions on a social network then I think you need to look at yourself and ask “What am I doing with my life?”” \
    Bullshit.
    1) The new facebook is horrible! It’s not modern and not thought out at all.
    2) People do like to learn things, but you’re not thinking of people with disabilities or those who don’t know how to use a computer who do use facebook!
3)People enjoy blogging and talking about everything in their spare time, it helps friends and families who are far away from each other and can’t always be reachable to keep updated on one another without always asking “so whats new?” Even people with awesome careers do this. So saying that we should be questioning what we’re doing with our lives is not valid point for you. They’re “complaining” because they have a right to voice their opinions and give feedback, even if it’s negative and NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR.
YOU and the web designers for the new facebook FAIL!

  120. Mark Says:

yes angrily commenting on people’s comment’s about their own feelings towards a social network is pretty sad. Maybe David needs to get out more I think the real ignorance is in ignoring what people are saying…

Unfortunately for many people these days, Facebook has become an important communication device. I personally live on the other side of the world to my friends & family so for me it’s an important tool that I use every day, so it’s paramount that it’s simple and easy to use.

Which I am afraid to say has not happened with the new edition.

the new facebook is crap. im really glad that the date was pushed back. i really feel that facebook is going to use a lot of users if the design changes. i thought that design changes were supposed to be for the better but the new facebook does not have anything “better” about it. the layout sucks, the tabs suck and the minifeed and wall are together and that is so stupid. i hate facebook and am leaving if we are not given a choice to keep the old or new facebook

  122. Jacqueline Says:

I have got to say that I absolutely DESPISE the new facebook for a few reasons:

    1) It’s ugly…no colour, empty space…
    2) It’s confusing to figure out…
    3) I hate not being able to see the number of wall posts I have…
    4) It slows down my computer majorly

Should facebook go through with these changes, I will definetely be deactivating my account. Why should I waste my time on such a confusing website that does not meet my needs as well as the needs of others.

There is nothing wrong with the old facebook, so why change something that doesn’t need it? Please reconsider your changes!

  123. Isabelle Says:

th new version of facebook sucks most of people are gonan stop isuing facebook with the new version, there thing all over the place you can’t find anything you need and you have to let the old version really

  124. Andre' Says:

The three things I dislike the most about the new facebook design are:
    1. Mini-feed and wall entries are in the same box.
    2. I cannot control the way I want my page to look like anymore.
    3. All these tabs to click on to get to information…
After honestly TRYING to like the new FB design, I soon gave up and return to the old design. Apparently, very soon, I will not have that choice anymore since the new FB design will become the only design. And I wonder: why? Why not make both designs available and let the users chose which they want to use to display their page? Even better, why not come up with a library of templates from which to chose and let the users decide which to use?

  125. karen Says:

What I’m most upset about is that I spent a lot of time arranging applications on my profile to make them look nice and now my profile is just ugly on the old facebook.

  126. Brittany Michelle Says:

I dont know who the hell keeps thinking that we need to change the look of facebook. First of all…i get used to the old one…and they complicate it by changing it once again….the “new facebook” is shit….no one wants it…and after they change it…i wont be using it….half of the things i had displayed on the old facebook arent on the new facebook..and i think we should have the option to choose weither or not we want the old application or the new….i dont give a shit if they’re looking for more people to join it…simple and basic is the way to go…add more applications…but dont change the whole facebook outlook all together…they’re going to lose alot of facebook users…because we are all fed up with this so called “new and improved look”…i hate myspace and that is what facebook is becoming….i want to stay in contact with people and friends…but if i wanted myspace id be on myspace….at least let us have the choice…after all…we’re the ones using it.

  127. Billy Says:

The new facebook is terrible. Completely unorganized layout, the designers should be prosecuted. Very hard to navigate, plain and boring looking, and just ultimately a fail. Failbook should stick to it’s original design for now, go back to the drawing board, and come up with something the public responds positively to.

  128. SOMone Says:

    I HATE THE NEW FACEBOOK!

  129. Rodrigo Yescas Says:

Facebook is it supposed to be fun… and the new Facebook ain’t funny

  130. Rob Mc Says:

The new facebook is absolutely horrendous, far too complicated to use, design is terrible and I have not heard of one single person who prefers the new facebook.

What you need to do is what you are doing now, leave the old facebook as an option to switch back to PERMANENTLY so those who like the old facebook can stay where they are and those seemingly rare number of people who like the new facebook can switch if they want to. This obviously isnt difficult as you have been operating this system for some time.

If you want to see what you will lose if you go ahead with this go on to the many numerous groups hundreds of thousands of members strong that hate the new facebook, and see how many people are threatening to delete their accounts if the new facebook becomes compulsary and non-reversible, I will be among them.

Dont make a ridiculous, costly, and easily avoided mistake, listen to you’re users. Just look at this page alone.

  131. Bri Says:

i personally do not like the new facebook design at all.
    it is very confusing.
if the new facebook design does become permanent then i probably wont use facebook at all.
PLEASE keep the old facebook, because if you make the new one permanent no one will use it. i have yet to hear anyone who does like it. everyone says that it is a mistake and shouldnt be there. so please listen to majority and keep the old one!!! :D

  132. livingplanet Says:

whoever in FB said that links/click throughs are better than the user’s options of doing their own layout of their profile page obviously did not take the user’s needs/wants into consideration.

the old FB layout provides for this. the new FB is too complicated aka a hassle for users and their page visitors.

  133. Chuck Wethington Says:

The new Facebook is terrible and all the groups and petitions show that it is. I hope if they change it permanently, TONS of people delete their account. I will

  134. Clint Poole Says:

The new face book is just horrible i hate it… it looks an feels so weird:O… im so happy they are pushin the date farther back!!:) but they need to just stop forcing a change on facebook.. otherwise they are gonna lose alot of people who use it an they are gonna switch back to myspace.. i no i will go to myspace an delete my account if they force it on me:O

  135. S. Roxas Says:

    OMW !!!! FAILBOOK!!!!

    TRY READING THESE:

“ASDFGHJKLKJHGY%U^VBIUNHN FCYDFGB FJBGNHMKBNGCVC TYTBNHBVFYYT TYKHG YREDY LUH U GUF SUR^@ BKJS*&@T D WKUTO* DLHG *&OWT TB TRT”

DID U UNDERSTAND??? NEITHER DID I! THAT’S FAILBOOK FOR YOU !!!!!!

  136. bill Says:

the new facebook just sucks period.

  137. aileen Says:

I ABSOLUTELY cannot stand the new facebook.
What I don’t understand is why facebook is not
listening to people. If most people hate the new facebook, then why do they keep attempting to
implement it? It’s not right. It’s not logical.

  138. Tanner Says:

Every one needs to chill out and stop complaining. I too didnt like the new facebook at first, but i gave it a chance and in the end it is easy and better u just have to get use to it which will happen! For thoose of you that have windows 98 try using safari or Firefox and maybe it will work if not im sorry but way more than 50% of the world have Windows 2000 or high and Mac computers.

“Embrace change for it can bring new and exciting things. If nothing ever change life would have no propose.”-Unknown

  139. Jeff Lewis Says:

i actually happen to likt the new design. the basic concept is good.

yea they could improve it but its still good. little nitpicky things can be added but before i was forced to look at everybody’s app’s but now i dont have to and i love it! i can chose what aspect of peoples profile i can view. before that was not possible.

like i said before i LIKE THE “NEW” FACEBOOK!!!
little things can be added but thats about it im not going to restate things that can be added because look above and you can read.

  140. Chase Twede Says:

There was only one thing I liked about the new facebook. The way you could scroll through the pieces of flair app and see what people have to say about themselves, but that was it! The green patch is gone, and I really liked seeing peoples green patches and so are the bumper stickers and a whole lot of apps that appealed to me personally. It is such a drag to see these go!

  141. Jabari Says:

I am personally highly dissapointed in the new facebook, which is why I have delayed my transition to the new design for as long as possible. Please, PLEASE provide US with an option as to which designwe’d prefer to use. The OLD FACEBOOK is waaaaay more functional! You can’t even see people’s interests, hobbies, or ABOUT ME in the main profile. I thought the purpose of thsi communictaion network was to get to know people?!

PLEASE KEEP THE OLD DESIGN….EVERYONE LOVES IT!!!

  142. Jack Yan Says:

I am OK with the new design but the way it has been carried out is piss-poor. The new version is slower on my system and others in the anti-new-FB groups have reported higher CPU usage. That is not good design. It seems they have only tested it on the latest computers with their own boffins, not with regular people. Secondly, there are application incompatibilities. I sent in my feedback to Facebook about them a month ago and even got a polite reply back to say they were aware of the particular issues I was having. I just read of a user who has still confronted those problems.

Facebook’s comments so far have been along the lines of dismissing the anti-new-FB groups, much like one of the members above who has worked out that the 99 per cent of people who have remained silent on the new design will stick with it. I do not follow this argument: not everyone will join a Facebook group for their own reasons, and remember that Coca-Cola also bet on mass acceptance when its own research showed that few would object to New Coke in the 1980s. Facebook might have a bigger revolt on its hands than the numbers show.

It would be good for Facebook to at least acknowledge that there is a grass-roots effort against the new look and listen to some concerns. I have seen nothing from the company that any responsible, sensible firm would have issued by now, knowing that a vocal minority could indeed find footing. One anti-new-FB group was growing at the rate of 7,000 people over a seven-day period; this week, that rate has shot up to hundreds of thousands.

Sure FB has a right to make a buck and not listen to anyone, but then Coca-Cola (New Coke), Boo.com (overly advanced website in the age of dial-up) and AltaVista (creating a portal when users just wanted a good search engine) all took this attitude once upon a time. Facebook has not learned from very recent history and it may find some people head over to its Russian rival, Vkontakte, in the same way that AltaVista refugees went to that unknown upstart search engine—what was that called? That’s right, Google.

  143. Simon Says:

    Hello,

I’m the admin for the group “1,000,000 against the new facebook layout”

This group has broken all records. It’s the fastest growing group in facebbok history and i’m sure it will become one of the largest groups on facebook. over 270,000 new members in 1 day.

Facebook has to take us seriously, this is the biggest protest on facebook. All we want is for them to offer both the old version and new version.

this is the link to the group

  144. Gisle Says:

i must say i dont understand what all the buzz is about. The new facebook is a huge improvment, i like how everything is organized, especially how i dont have to spend minutes to wait until someones profilepage is fully loadet because of tons of useless apps.

    good work facebook designer team.

  145. Ciara Says:

The new facebook is a disgrace to the personal feel of facebook. it is mushed together and all the cool features and applications are not even on the profile! i personally love my bumper stickers and they dont even show up on the new profile! WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE IT?!?!?!?? to something ugly and complicated…

  146. Shayla Carter Says:

Well, i’ve tried to wrap my head around the new Facebook, truly, i really have..lol
    BUT…
    I can’t stand it…seriously. :(
I left Myspace bcoz of the chaotic aspect of it, and found facebooks compact format a lot easier to use and keep up with.
I have honestly given the “New” FB a good go, but i find myself itching to click it back to the old way bcoz it is so SPLATTERED & unorganized.
PLEASE, PLEASE , PLEASE, at least leave the option to go back to the old Facebook so that those who prefer that can do so :)
    The old format ROCKS!!
    The new format SUCKS!!!
Sorry FB, but you gotta know the truth..lol

  147. Marie Njie Says:

YOU ARE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE!!!!! the new facebook is SHIT!! what are u thinkin? everybody hates it! u cant do this to us.. damn..

  148. Brock Timber Says:

To put it simply, the new facebook is awful, it is cluttery, unorganized, and not user friendly. Please facebook do not make the switch to the new facebook it sucks! I hate it! If facebook is unwillingly to listen to a lot of peoples comments regarding this awful design than at least keep the option to go back to the old facebook as well. It sucks, this is just like the new coke flop. It is the facebook flop. Why create something new when that something is GREAT already! If facebook switches many users will not log on regularly, delete their accounts, or switch over to other social networking devices less cluttery and more organized! Facebook the new facebook SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  149. Rory Fitzpatrick Says:

Give the new design a few hours and you get used to it, its actually a huge improvement in many ways. Stop pretending to be designers, you don’t know anything. It looks like a lot of thought went into this and I think it works well. Whats the big deal?

  150. Ushiyama Pepero Says:

I choosed Facebook because of it’s easyness for use it, and because it looked very well, but now it look so much like myspace. (I hate MySpace beacuse of it is extremly complex to use it)
And these some of the things I don’t like from new version:
    Very messy and too wide.
    Not centered.
I can’t organise my applications the way I want.
    I’m getting some privacy issues.
    Some applications went wrecked.
Result of Quizzes doesn’t appear at the mini-feed.
Mini-feed and Wall are mixed and it’s confussing.
Profile should have Info as first-appearing data.
You can’t Skip “sending app to friend” step.
It’s inefficient, because of is visually disorganised, and you have to expend more time using facebook.
and like Rory Fitzpatrick says… I’m not a designer, but I’m an user, the most important person in a website.
If I say goodbye to facebook because I feel that it’s uncomfortable, they’ll loose an user, they will loose money from they sponsors.
And I don’t think it works well.
I really have got a lot of issues about this new facebook.
I suffered the temporal deletion of all of my applications.
    well, that’s all.

    Ushiyama Pepero!
