Meebo Now Monetizing IM in Facebook Apps
July 16th, 2008
Meebo, which is well known for its integrated web-based IM service, has been quite aggressive in rolling out its group chat APIs for social network apps and community websites over the last year. Big Facebook app developers like Buddy Media, FrozenBear, Spicerack Media, Unit 501, RockYou, and TheBroth have signed up.
Today, Meebo is adding Meebo Community Instant Messaging to its line of offerings for apps and websites that have implemented group chat. Meebo is enabling XMPP (Jabber) federation, connecting users across multiple partner sites, at meebo.com, or in third-party clients that support Jabber. Launch partners include Flixster, myYearbook, AddictingGames, Piczo, SparkArt, Sugar Publishing, DanceJam, and Tagged.
“Partners will see increased engagement, additional monetization opportunities and greater viral reach. The end goal is to connect the Web’s entire social graph in open, live communication,” says Seth Sternberg, CEO and co-founder of Meebo.
Meebo shares ad revenue generated inside synchronous conversations (both 1-to-1 IM and group chat) on partner sites. This could bring an additional source of revenue for Facebook apps with highly engaged users.

This Meebo strategy is exactly the same as Userplane.
Except, Userplane launched revshare over a year ago, deeper APIs, and is a top 30 ad network already paying developers and publishers huge payouts.
I like the Meebo product, but am curious to see if they can actually generate revenue for their partners.

Really Meebo is a big gift for me. I am able to chat with all my clients and friends the same time. The highlight is MEEBO doenst occupies more RAM. So it doesnt affect my PC’s performance.
