Facebook NOT Launching App Payment System at f8
July 16th, 2008
While there has recently been some speculation that Facebook will announce its Platform payments system at the 2nd annual f8 developer conference in San Francisco next week, Inside Facebook has learned from reliable sources that this is indeed not the case. While Facebook is hard at work on a payments system for application developers, it’s simply not ready to launch yet.
Facebook started taking developer applications to participate in a payments beta program last December. When ready, the Platform payments system will make it much easier for developers to build commerce-based revenue streams into their applications. Currently, some developers have experimented with other payment processing services, but nothing has really taken off.
We’ll let you know as the actual launch timeframe becomes clearer.

I didn’t think they would launch it - I do bet they at least announce a few details though. The big “surprise” launch I really think will be mobile though:

The RealGifts application has a nicely integrated and secure payment system.
Check it out at:
http://apps.facebook.com/realgifts
The application allows you to send and receive real, tangible gifts at your door from your Facebook friends. It keeps your delivery address private, but allows you to send and receive fun, tasty, or romantic gifts at deep discounts.

The Mpayyment widget is already a secure payment processing application on facebook (http://apps.facebook.com/mpayyment).
Any developers that want to build this into their applications can contact info@mpayy.com. The widget as is simply processes payments. However, Mpayy is actively looking for widget developers who want to promote some sort of commerce, and will work with them to bring our internet Point of Sale systems to bear to unlock digital content or inform inventory systems on the widget developer’s side.
Mpayy is developed and housed by US Bank, and works with all bank accounts in the United States.
We look forward to hearing from interested parties.
