Prominent VC Seeing More Deals from Facebook Developers

What do Facebook developers think about the impact of the upcoming Facebook profile redesign on their business?

According to one prominent venture capitalist familiar with the space, if the rising urgency of top Facebook developers to close financing rounds soon is any indication, developers are worried that life on Facebook Platform 2.0 is going to be harder than it was in year one.

“I’ve seen a lot of nice-looking charts that go up and to the right from developers who say they’ve figured out virality,” said one VC we spoke with this week who wished to remain anonymous.

“We’re seeing a lot more traffic in our office from some of the larger Facebook developers, but we’re concerned that although they see a tsunami coming, no one seems to really know whether it’s going to be a 1 foot or 20 foot crest. There’s a good chance that the Facebook redesign is going to require developers to re-architect user interaction and growth.”

The Facebook redesign is scheduled to go live in July.

In the meantime, the Facebook Platform team is soliciting screen shots from developers wanting to share their new designs with the development community. In a recent developer blog post, Facebook wrote,

We’re eager to see what you’re creating for the new profile design and would love it if you would submit screen shots showing off your new tabs, profile boxes, and Publisher add-on. We may feature some of the best ones. We’ll keep your screen shots confidential and will ask your permission before sharing any of them.

Interested developers can send their screen shots to developer-feedback@facebook.com, putting [screenshots] in the subject line.
