RockYou Raises $35 Million to Build Advertising Product Line
June 9th, 2008
RockYou, the second largest Facebook application developer by daily active users and total installs, today announced that the company has raised a whopping $35 million Series C round of financing from DCM.
While the valuation was not announced, one would have to guess that in light of competitor Slide’s recent $50 million round at $500 million pre, RockYou may have been able to snag a valuation in the $200-$350 million range.
RockYou’s Facebook apps, Super Wall, Likeness, Hug Me, and others, collectively garner over 3 million daily active users on Facebook alone. The company’s largest app, Super Wall, will likely go through significant changes when Facebook pushes its upcoming profile redesign.
In addition to building its own apps, RockYou has built a publisher and advertising network across its properties. Long known for its CPI marketplace, RockYou has run campaigns for Paramount, New Line Cinema, Sony, CBS and Microsoft across its applications and widgets on Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking platforms over the last year.
David Chao, Co-founder and General Partner of DCM, is drinking the distributed kool-aid. “With the recent surge of worldwide SNS platforms like Facebook, Hi5, Mixie, Myspace, and Xiaonei worldwide, DCM believes that RockYou will be the catalyst of this new global ecosystem that delivers next-generation advertisements through its innovative advertising network and social applications. With the current momentum, RockYou is positioned to become a Top 10 Internet property in the world in the near future.”
RockYou has raised earlier funding from DCM, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Partech International and Sequoia Capital.
