Thanks guys. Glad you liked it. I hope to do more of these lessons leading through the life cycle of app development in the near future. They'll all be bundled up on SocialMedia.com as well.

Good post.

I have to disagree with Kevin though. From my experience, Facebook users show no trend towards productivity/utility apps. They're all about novel distrations at work, games, and mindless poking/gifting garbage.

I've yet to see a "serious" app with actual useful functionality do well. Mind you, that doesn't mean that the platform is useless as a business springboard... :)

I think there will definitely be a push for far more sophisticated apps across all categories. The potential is there for Facebook to be the hub for content and interactivity - and while simple, addictive apps ruled the day at the beginning, the ones that will stand out moving forward will be far more sophisticated in its content, feature-set, and so-forth

As the maker of one Facebook application, I can tell you that you summed it all well. My application, Status Competition is a blend of rating, utilities and social connections (more on the side of staying connected with your friends).

But people have to realize that it is harder to get noticed with so many Facebook Applications. We see an application fatigue within certain demographic groups.
