Facebook hires Google’s Sheryl Sandberg as new COO
March 4th, 2008
Facebook this morning announced that Sheryl Sandberg, currently VP of Global Online Sales & Operations for Google, will be joining the company as Chief Operating Officer.
In her new role, Sandberg will be responsible for helping Facebook scale its operations and expand its presence globally - managing sales, marketing, business development, human resources, public policy, privacy and communications. She will report directly to Zuckerberg.
Commenting on the hire, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “Sheryl is a great manager who will help scale Facebook’s operations globally. She has relevant experience and a track record of scaling business operations and building new kinds of advertising networks. Sheryl understands Facebook’s goal of connecting everyone in the world and is passionate about building a business that will enable us to realize this mission.”
Sandberg has a very positive reputation in Silicon Valley. Most folks here at Graphing Social Patterns think it’s a great move for Facebook.
